2010 Farmers Classic: Bryan brothers knocked down Mark Knowles and Mardy Fish
Last night in Loss Angeles, Bryan brothers played their first match at the Farmers Classic and showcased a phenomenon tennis exhibit by registering their names on the pages of history.
They together knocked down Mark Knowles and Mardy Fish, with a final match score of 6-3, 6-4 at the Straus Stadium within a time period of sixty minutes.
Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan both are just three victories short of exceeding the all time slate of doubles championship wins.
They levelled the record made by “The Woodies”, the Australian tennis pair Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge with their sixty one victory at the Madrid Masters during the month of May earlier this season.
Fans in Loss Angeles always feel great to see the twins from Camarillo performing in the city of California. It is the only championship they have succeeded on a total of five occasions so far in their professional tennis career.
“We have been performing on that surface when both of us were just six years of age,” Mike commented. “That is our darling surface in the world. We fight in this championship as if playing in one of the major tennis competitions in the world. We came here this week with a same hope of performing at our very best and when we saw the stands, we felt amazed as it was all full”, he added.
Their opponents, Knowles and Mardy, who are currently ranked number thirty in the world, were simply outclassed by the second ranked pair of Bryans Brother in the world.
Mardy Fish, who succeeded in a total of two straight ATP singles championships in Newport and Atlanta, appeared in this match for the first time after his injury. His left ankle got injured during the final match of Atlanta tennis championship few days ago.
On the other hand, the thirty eight years old, Knowles, also didn’t look at his very best. As a result, the Bryans took full advantage of their opponent’s weakness and took break points early on in the match on Wednesday.
They said that they are aware that Mardy is the hot favourite player in the championship, and that he is going to give them a tough fight, which he did. Bob commented. “And Knowlesy, on the other hand has done pretty well on that surface in the past. He is undoubtedly one of the top class doubles contenders of all times.”
Bryans will face Dmitry Tursunov and Ernests Gulbis in their next clash today. Their sixty two doubles titles has become a hot topic of debate, however, Bryan brothers are not thinking too much about it as they are concentrating on their upcoming matches for now.
“Our target was to level the sixty one record which we have managed to achieve successfully, we did well to control our nerves throughout the match,” said Bob.
In other Wednesday matches at Loss Angeles, Sam Querrey from United States of America knocked down the South African Kevin Anderson with a final match score of 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-0.
On the other hand, Marcos Baghdatis, the third seeded player dismissed Ryan Sweeting 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. The sixth seeded, Janko Tipsarevic from Serbia thrashed out his Indian opponent Somdev Devvarman 7-6 (11-9), 6-2. In the last singles match of the round number two, the German tennis ace Rainer Schuettler hammered down Robby Ginepri, an American tennis contender with a final match score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
