2010 Fifa World Cup: Uruguay v Germany half time report

Uruguay 1 Germany 1

Thomas Mueller's fifth goal of the tournament has been cancelled out by Edinson Cavani as Germany and Uruguay are level in the World Cup's third place playoff in a rainy Port Elizabeth.

After a lively opening, the 20-year-old Mueller drew level with David Villa and Wesley Sneijder in the race for the Golden Boot when he followed up a swerving Bastian Schweinsteiger effort that Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera could only parry away.

The lead didn't last long though, and after German captain Schweinsteiger had given the ball away, a lightning quick Uruguayan counter attack resulted in Luis Suarez finding Cavani, who poked home an effort beyond Hans-Jorg Butt.

Earlier, German centre back Arne Friedrich had hit the crossbar with a header from a corner, and Diego Forlan saw a free kick curl narrowly wide.

Shortly before the break, Suarez could only drag an effort wide when played through by Forlan.
