2010 Formula 1 season summary – Sebastian Vettel the new drivers’ champion
Sebastian Vettel has been a part of Formula 1 since 2007 when he began his career with BMW Sauber and Toro Rosso but the young German did not participate in the full season yet as he was just participating as a replacement
for the full time drivers of these respective teams back then. However, Sebastian Vettel earned himself a spot in Toro Rosso the following year and drove his first full season. Sebastian miraculously scored an 8th place in a car that
was nowhere near the mid grid teams even.
Vettel was able to secure 35 points with the team and obviously, he believed that he was a special driver and expressed that he was looking forward to join one of the top running teams. However, since Red Bull did not want
to lose such a talented driver, Red Bull shifted Sebastian from Toro Rosso to Red Bull Racing team since both of the teams are sponsored and managed by Red Bull Management.
Therefore, Sebastian Vettel joined Red Bull in 2009 alongside the Australian driver Mark Webber but the only problem back then was that Red Bull was unable to score good results and it did not seem like a very promising deal.
But with drivers like Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, the team was able to pull off a result that proved that Red Bull is as good as either McLaren or Ferrari since Red Bull finished in 2nd place in the constructors’ standings behind
Brawn GP, who won both drivers and constructors’ titles even though it was their debut season in the sport.
Sebastian Vettel was able to score 2nd place in the drivers’ standings behind 2009 world champion Jenson Button, who decided to move from Brawn GP to McLaren for 2010. Sebastian was able to secure
4 wins in 2009 and proved that he has the ability to win and beat drivers like the 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton and two-time champion Fernando Alonso.
Fernando Alonso struggled for 2 years after leaving McLaren due to a lot of conflicts and personal differences with the team before joining Ferrari in 2010. The 2010 Formula 1 season shaped up to be quite an event with drivers
like Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, and Felipe Massa and of course Sebastian Vettel driving in the best teams the sport has to offer.
Even before the season began, these 6 top drivers were constantly outrunning each other race after race and created diverse challenges for one another during the test sessions. However, the only disappointment was that Michael
Schumacher decided to return to Formula 1 with Brawn GP in 2010 - who decided to call themselves team Mercedes this year - and was unable to perform up to the mark and secured a disappointing 9th place in the drivers’ standings.
Meanwhile, the 6 beasts battled against each other and at first, it seemed that Felipe Massa still had that aggressiveness and spark in him even though he had to miss half of the 2009 season because of a life-threatening
accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix. As the season progressed, it seemed that Felipe was unable to keep up with the top 5 drivers’ in the standings who were divided by less than 25 points almost throughout the season before Jenson Button scored some disappointing
results and therefore, had to withdraw from his championship run before the grand finale at Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was quite intense and dramatic but Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull were able to out-think Ferrari and therefore, composed a strategy that enabled the young German to become the youngest Formula 1 champion
in history.
The 2010 Formula 1 season was quite dramatic and unpredictable and offered a unique experience to its fans and as a result, became one of the most exhilarating seasons in the history of Formula 1.
