2010 If Stockholm Open, Ivan Dodig and Taylor Dent cruises into second round
The professional tennis player from Croatia, Ivan Dodig stunned the World number forty-two, Tommy Robredo with an impressive two setter victory in the first round of the 2010 If Stockholm Open Men’s Singles Competition on Tuesday. The final match score was
6-3, 6-2.
The world number 146 as a result of this victory has managed to overcome a gap of ninety places in the ATP 2010 ranking list on the tour. Robredo was seeded number eight to win the title in Sweden.
The twenty-five year old Ivan, who achieved his career high ranking of world number 146 back in August this season, posted his seventh tour level victory of the year. It is his first tournament since his appearance at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United
States Open in New York. The Croatian made his way into the second round after Fernando Gonzalez withdrew from the opening match at Flushing Meadows as a result of his injury.
Tommy, on the other hand, who was also a semi finalist on his Stockholm debut eight years back in 2002, slipped to a mark of 20-23 on the year after recording his second opening round defeat on the ATP World Tour in three weeks.
Ivan, who currently resides in Halle earlier also successfully qualified for the year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open in Melbourne and got the better of former top ranked Juan Carlos Ferrero in the opening round in a five setter epic before bundling
out in the next match.
Meanwhile, the World number twenty-one, Taylor Dent, from the United States of America confirmed his place in the next round of the ATP World Tour 250 indoor hard-court tennis competition when Michal Pryzsiezny pulled out of the clash after injuring his
ankle in their first encounter. The twenty-nine year old Dent took the opening set 6-2 and thus registered his 150th career match victory on the tour.
The Florida resident, who turned professional back in 1998, has so far won a total of four ATP singles titles in his career at Newport, Bangkok, Moscow as well as Memphis. His title victory in Memphis is still regarded as his most outstanding one, where
he got past the future top ranked Andy Roddick in the finals.
