2010 Kremlin Cup, Mikhail Kukushkin and Victor Crivoi reach second round
World number seventy-four, Mikhail Kukushkin got the better of Jeremy Chardy in a two setter clash in his opening round match of the 2010 Kremlin Cup Men’s Singles competition on Tuesday.
The final match score was 6-2, 6-4. The clash concluded in a time period of seventy-eight minutes in Moscow. The Astana resident as a result of this victory has made his way into the second round of the tournament.
The twenty-two year old Mihkail, who turned professional back in 2006, has so far won a total of two ATP Challenger Tour crowns in 2010. The right hander came through the qualifying round to make his way into the main draw of a Masters Series 1000 competition
at the Miami Masters on the very first occasion back in 2009. He got the better of Tommy Haas in his opening round clash only to fall at the hands of Dmitry Tursunov in the next round in straight sets.
Just about two weeks ago, Mikhail successfully made his way into the quarter final round of the PTT Thailand Open Men’s Singles Competition where he faced the world number one Rafael Nadal, who toppled him in straight sets. The final match score was 6-2,
6-3.
The twenty-four year old Spaniard, who previously captured his ninth major title at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York after dispatching off Novak Djokovic of Serbia surpassed the twenty-two year old Kukushkin with a great all
round performance.
Nadal as a result of his title victory in Flushing Meadows also completed his career Grand Slam and recorded his name as the seventh player in the history to do so.
In other action, Victor Crivoi from Romania knocked out Andrey Kuznetsov, a qualifier from Russia to confirm his spot in the second round of the 2010 Kremlin Cup on Tuesday. The final match score was 7-6(4), 6-3.
The clash was stretched to a time period of one hour and thirty-seven minutes in Moscow. The twenty eight year old Victor blasted a total of seven aces to get past his opponent in straight sets.
The right handed Romanian, who turned professional back in 2003, achieved his career high ranking of World number seventy-five back in 2009. The victory came as his third tour level win in 2010.
