2010 Kremlin Cup: Alexandr Dolgopolov breezes into the second round
World number fifty five Alexandr Dolgopolov from Ukraine got the better of Illya Belyaev, a qualifier from Russia, in a two setter clash in the first round of the 2010 Kremlin Cup Men’s Singles Competition on Tuesday. The final
match score was 6-2, 6-4. The battle in Moscow lasted for just fifty nine minutes.
The twenty one year old Dolgopolov, who is the youngest contender in the ATP top hundred list as a result of his victory, has improved his match record to 18-20 on the year after beating the Russian who was appearing in the ATP
World Tour main draw on the very first occasion in his career.
The professional tennis player from Ukraine, Alexandr Dolgopolov who turned pro back in 2006 started the season by contesting at the Brisbane International tennis tournament, where he qualified into the main draw after thrashing
out Joseph Sirianni and Kaden Hensel. The right hander started his tournament’s campaign with a two setter victory over Bernard Tomic 6-4, 6-4 before falling down at the hands of Radek Stepanek in three sets.
The 1.83 meters tall Dolgopolov who achieved his career high ranking of world number thirty nine back in July this season dismissed Marco Chiudinelli in three sets in his opening round of the 2010 Wimbledon competition at the All
England Club. The final match score was 6-4, 6-3, and 6-3. The Ukrainian also played some great tennis in his next round clash against Jo Wilfriedd, Tsonga unfortunately couldn’t win it in the end though. The French tennis player, Tsonga overpowered Dolgopolov
in a five setter clash to confirm his spot in the next round of the grass court Grand Slam tournament in London.
In the year’s final major, the United States Open in New York, Alexandr Dolgopolov was put in the same draw along with the World number one Rafael Nadal of Spain. He did well to make his way into the third round of the tournament
where he was given a treatment by Nadal despite playing quite well till the end. His serve, in particular impressed every one and he became a hot topic of discussion afterwards.
Meanwhile, world number seventy four Mikhail Kukushkin as well as Victor Crivoi, also won their opening round matches with a straight set victory over Jeremy Chardy and Andrey Kuznestov on Tuesday.
