2010 Kremlin Cup: First Round Qualifiers (Men's Draw)
A number of professionals battled it out in the first round of the 2010 Kremlin Cup to make it through to the round to follow. Seeded no. 1 at the tournament, Russia's Nikolay Davydenko will face Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas in
the second round of the tournament. Cuevas defeated Germany's Daniel Brand, 6-2 and 7-6 in the first round to advance to the second.
Frenchman Jeremy Chardy lost to Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin. Kukushkin thrashed Chardy 6-2 in the first set and 6-4 in the second, to make a place for himself in the second round of the tournament.
No. 5 seed, Russia's Radek Štěpánek got through with Romania's Victor Hănescum, defeating him 7-6 and 6-3 to make it through to the next round. Štěpánek will be opposed by Kukushkin in the second round.
Receiving a bye into the second round, Frenchman Jo-Wilfriend Tsonga will be faced by Serbia's Viktor Troicki in the second round of his draw. Troicki defeated Russia's Dmitry Tursunov 5-7, 6-4 and 6-3 to proceed to the next
round.
Romania's Victor Crivoi got rid of Russia's Andrey Kuznetsov, bashing him 7-6 and 6-3, to mark a straight-set win. Crivoi will be faced by Argentina's Horacio Zeballos. The Argentinean defeated Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic in
a three set tussle to make it through to the second round. Tipsarevic was beaten 4-6, 6-4 and 6-3, to be sent home.
In an all Ukrainian second round match, Sergiy Stakhovsky will go head to head with Alexandr Dolgopolov. Earlier, Dolgopolov defeated Russia's Ilya Belyaev, 6-2 and 6-4 to face compatriot Stakhovsky. Meanwhile, Sergiy triumphed
over America's Michael Russell 6-4, 3-6 and 7-5 to make it through to the next round.
Seeded no. 4, Cyprus' Marcos Baghdatis will be faced by Italy's Potito Starace in the second round of his draw. Starace eliminated wild card entrant, Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili, 3-6, 7-5 and 6-1 to proceed to the next round.
Amongst the triumphant few was also Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev. Golubev defeated Argentina's Maximo González 6-3 and 6-2 in straight sets to face Russia's Igor Kunitsyn in the second round of the championship.
Kunitsyn got rid of fellow countryman Igor Andreev, thrashing him 6-4 in the first set and 7-6 in the following set, based upon his tie-break win. Seeded no. 2, Russia's Mikhail Youzhny will be opposed by Uzbekistan's Daniel
Istomin in his second round match.
Istomin beat Ukraine's Illya Marchenko in the first round, taking the second and third set 6-2 and 6-2, prior to losing the first set 7-6 after Marchenko took the set based on a tie-break win.
