2010 Kremlin Cup: Quarter-finalists (Men's Draw)
Seeded no. 4 at the tournament, Cyprus' Marcos Baghdatis came out victorious against Italy's Potito Starace, defeating him 6-4 and 6-3 to make a place for himself in the quarter-finals of the 2010 Kremlin Cup.
Prior to his second round loss, Starace went head-to-head with wild card entrant, Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili. Teymuraz initiated the match by taking the first set 6-3. Nevertheless, the Italian bounced back to bag the second set 7-5 and furthermore, went on to take the decider 6-1 to advance at the tournament.
Alongside Baghdatis was also Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov. Thrashing compatriot Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-2 in the first set and 7-6 in the second, Dolgopolov made it through the second round to be faced by Marcos in the quarters.
Earlier to being defeated in the second round, Stakhovsky got through with America's Michael Russell in the first round of the championship. Sergiy took the first set 6-4, right before Russell made a comeback, taking the second set 6-3. The final set, however, went in favor of the Russian, as he took it 7-5.
Qualifier Russia's Igor Kunitsyn will be opposed by Uzbekistan's Daniel Istomin in the quarter-final match of their draw. Seeded no. 6, Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev faced defeat at the hands of Kunitsyn as the Russian beat him 6-4 and 7-5 to advance to the next round. Golubev made it through to the second round, crushing Argentina's Maximo González 6-3 and 6-2.
Istomin got rid of Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu, defeating him 1-6, 7-5 and 6-3 in the second round of his draw. Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas went nip and tuck with the no. 1 seed, Russia's Nikolay Davydenko. Davydenko was defeated 7-6 and 7-6 to mark Cuevas' straight set win.
Pablo will be faced by Czech Republic's Radek Štěpánek in the quarter-finals. Štěpánek eliminated Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin, defeating him 6-3 and 6-2 in the second round of his draw. Earlier, Kukushkin beat Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, 6-2 and 6-4 to make it through to the round to follow.
Amongst the triumphant professionals was also Argentina's Horacio Zeballos. The Argentinean defeated Romania's Victor Crivoi 7-5 and 7-6 to face Serbia's Viktor Troicki in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Troicki triumphed over the no. 3 seed, France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, in the second round to make it through to the next round. Tsonga took the first set 6-3. That, however, seemed like all the Frenchman had to offer, as he lost the remaining two sets 3-6 and 5-7.
