2010 Kremlin Cup: Semi-finalists (Men's Draw)
Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas battled it out in the initial few rounds of the 2010 Kremlin Cup to make it through to the semi-finals of the tournament. Alongside Cuevas was also Serbia's Viktor Troicki. The two will face off in the semi-finals
of their draw.
Cuevas defeated the no. 5 seed, Russia's Radek Štěpánek in the quarter-finals to make a place for himself in the semis. Štěpánek was beaten 6-4 in the third set and 7-5 in the second set, after losing a tie-breaker to Pablo. Earlier
to facing the Uruguayan, Radek eliminated Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round, defeating him 6-3 and 6-2.
Meanwhile, Troicki triumphed over Argentina's Horacio Zeballos in the quarter-finals of his draw to advance at the tournament. The crisp two-set match was brought to an end just as Troicki bagged the game based upon his 6-2 win
in the first set, followed by a 6-1 win in the second. Prior to opposing Viktor in the quarters, Horacio got through with Romani's Victor Crivoi, thrashing him 7-5 and 7-6 in the second round.
Additionally, Cyprus' Marcos Baghdatis toughed it out during the first few rounds and now faces Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin in the semi-finals of the championship. Seeded no. 4 at the tournament, Baghdatis defeated Ukraine's Alexandr
Dolgopolov in the quarter-finals to make it through to the next round.
Marcos initiated the match with a 6-2 win in the first set and went on to take the second set 7-6 to send Alexandr home. Dolgopolov defeated compatriot Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-2 and 7-6 in the second round, just before he was beaten
by Baghdatis in the match to follow.
Istomin made a place for himself in the semi-finals upon defeating Russian qualifier Igor Kunitsyn in the quarter-finals of the championship. Kunitsyn was thrashed 6-2 in the first set and 6-4 in the second set to mark a straight
set win for Denis.
Earlier, the Russian defeated the no. 6 seed, Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev in the second round of the tournament. Igor got off to a good start, taking the first set 6-4 and went on to win the second set 7-5, after going nip and
tuck with Golubev.
Now, if the no. 4 seed, Baghdatis, makes it through to the final, he will either be opposed by Pablo Cuevas or Victor Troicki. However, if the semi-final goes in favour of Istomin, the professional will face one of the two in the
finals of the 2010 Kremlin Cup.
