2010 Kremlin Cup; Viktor Troicki versus Pablo Cuevas – Match Preview
The fourth seed Marcos Baghdatis from Cyprus is joined by Pablo Cuevas, an unseeded player from Uruguay and will take on Viktor Troicki from Serbia and Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in today’s semi final matches at the 2010 Kremlin
Cup Men’s singles competition in Moscow. Marcos is the only former ATP World Tour champion whereas the rest of the players are attempting to break through and register their names as first time winner in 2010. Pablo and Marcos have yet to drop a set on their
way into the final four in Moscow.
In the first semi final match of the day, Viktor Troicki from Serbia will take on Pablo Cuevas on the centre court. The Serbian leads the pair’s head to head encounter at 1-0. In their only previous meeting in Indian Wells back
in March, Pablo withdrew from the match after a single game as a result of his back injury.
World number seventy one Pablo is the top ranked player on the ATP tour from Uruguay. The twenty four year old is playing in his first ATP World Tour final four of the year and fourth overall. He made his last two semi final appearances
in Vina del Mar and later in Hamburg back in 2009.
The right hander is attempting to register his name as the first player from Uruguay to make his way into an ATP World Tour title battle since Marcelo Filippini. The Uruguayan is making his second showing at the Kremlin Cup in
Moscow as he was defeated last year in the quarter finals. Pablo, this year has reached the semi finals without even missing a single set and got the better of Daniel Brands of Germany, Nikolay Davydenko as well as the fifth seed Radek Stepanek on his way
to the final four. He enters with a match record of 19-19 on the season. He won the biggest title of his career at the French Open along with his partner Horna back in 2008.
The twenty four year old Troicki, on the other hand is the number three Serbian behind Djokovic and Tipsarevic on the ATP tour. He is playing in his fourth ATP World tour final four in 2010 and currently enjoys a match record of
32-28 on the year. World number forty three has so far reached the semi final rounds in Doha, New Heaven as well as Tokyo earlier this season. He also made his way into the quarter final round in Zagreb back in February.
The Serbian stands at a lifetime mark of 5-2 in Moscow and advanced into the quarters here back in 2008. He will also take part in the doubles semi final at the Kremlin Cup along with his partner Tipsarevic. The right hander is
also a member of the Davis Cup team of Serbia that will contest in the final towards the end of the year against France.
Viktor brushed aside his American foe, John Isner back in March in the opening rubber of the Davis Cup however was defeated in the next rubber by Marin Cilic in the following month. The professional tennis player from Serbia ended
a season end best of number twenty nine in the world back in 2009 with a match record of 32-29, highlighted by his second career ATP World Tour title battle at the PTT Thailand Open in Bangkok where he was toppled by Gilles Simon. Viktor made his way into
his first ATP final in Washington back in 2008 with his first top ten victory over the then world number nine Andy Roddick from the United States of America.
