2010 Kremlin Cup Women’s singles competition; Wednesday’s Review
Victoria Azarenka bounced back from a set down to win her match against Andrea Petkovic at the 2010 Kremlin Cup Women’s singles competition on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Victoria, as a result of this victory
has successfully reached the quarter final round in Moscow.  
The second seed Victoria, needed one hour and eleven minutes to take the opening set, and then lost her control of the game in the second, however ended strongly to defeat Petkovic in the pair’s only clash of their career.
With this victory, Victoria has joined Kim Clijsters, Jelena Jankovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Francesca Schiavone, Vera Zvonareva, Elena Dementieva as well as Samantha Stosur in the elite eight women field in Doha.
"I am so happy. It was a really tough match, very close games. I was a break up, break down, but I am glad that I got through and stayed strong in the end. Moscow is an important tournament for me,” beamed Victoria.
She further added, "I was nervous as I really wanted to get into Doha. I tried to keep Doha out of my mind and stay focused but it was obviously hard. Now I am there so I can relax. It will be a little bit less pressure this week;
however I will still be battling hard. I am playing singles and doubles here and I hope to go all the way."
Stacey Allaster, who is the chairman and CEO of the WTA tour also congratulated Victoria on her successful qualification for the Doha event next month on Wednesday. Stacey further added that she is an immensely talented contender
and everyone is excited and looking forward to watching her as it will be great to have her back in Doha.
Victoria, also successfully qualified for the season ending Finals last year in Doha.
In other action, the eight seed Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez also rallied back from a set down to defeat Alona Bondarenko in a three setter clash on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. Dominika Cibulkova, on the
other hand also eased past Tsvetana Pironkova in two sets. The final score line was 6-4, 6-1.
In the final battle of the day, Alisa Kleybanova who is seeded number seven to win the title in Moscow got the better of her Italian opponent Sara Errani in straight sets. The final match score was 7-6, (0) 6-4. Alisa blasted a
total of nine aces to surpass the Italian. Sara was up by a break on two occasions in the opening set and once in the start of the second set however Alisa, with the help of her home crowd support, managed to win both sets in the end. Sara had defeated Alisa
in straight sets in both of their past clashes this season at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York as well as Miami.
On the men’s side in Moscow, the fourth seed Marcos Baghdatis defeated Potito Starace from Italy in two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-3. Marcos, who fired eleven aces, got past his Italian opponent in just sixty two minutes.
Meanwhile, Radek Stepanek also made his way into his fourth quarter or better in 2010 after dismissing Mikhail Kukushkin in straight sets.The final match score was 6-3, 6-2.
In the doubles match, the top seed pair of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi played their opening clash on Wednesday and successfully managed to topple Leos Friedl and Victor Hanescu in three sets.The score line was 6-1, 3-6,
10-8.The battle was stretched to a time period of seventy six minutes on Wednesday.
