A beautiful 94-run knock from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Southern-Rocks-c845 in the 2010 Metbank One-Day Competition match at Masvingo Sports Club on Sunday. While chasing a competitive
40-overs total of 239 runs mustered by Rhinos, the whole Rocks’ team was bowled out in the penultimate over with 221 on the board.
The half-century by Rocks’ wicket keeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915.
Despite losing Sikandar Raza quite early, Rocks started the run chase reasonably before running into a red-hot Brendon, who scythed through the line-up of Rocks to finish with 4 for 35 from 5 overs. Richmond Mutumbami, after losing his opening partner on
the seventh ball of the innings with just 7 on the board, shared a half-century partnership with Taibu. Rocks were at 64 when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Solomon-Mire-c2550 bowled out Richmond for 20. His 29-ball 20 contained two fours as well.
Mutumbami’s dismissal brought Craig Ervine to the crease and in partnership with Taibu; the pair brought 100 up for Rocks in next six overs. Their partnership was 43 when Mire struck back having Ervine caught by Chikunya. Ervine scored 29 runs from 28 balls
plundering two boundaries and a six.
That became 119 for 4 when the fluent Taibu departed during the 23rd over slashing Nicolson to Brendon; it was this point from where Rocks’ downhill started. Taibu struck a fine knock of 56 runs from 64 balls driving the ball eight times through
the boundary line. Rest of the line-up failed to face the opposition attack and kept on returning to the pavilion at regular intervals. The whole team was bowled out on the last ball of 39th over with 221 on the board.
Brendon finished 4 for 35 from five overs while Mire returned with 3 for 39 from his quota of 8 overs. Ian Nicolson picked up two wickets while conceding 24 runs in his spell of 7 overs.
Earlier, Alester Maregwede, the captain of Rocks, after having won the toss opted to field first. On being put to bat first, Rhinos went off to a shaky start losing four wickets within 13 overs with only 67 runs on the board but a three-digit partnership
between Waller and Kasteni initiated their revival and put the side on its way to a competitive 40-over total of 239 for 8. With rest of the line-up capitulating to the attack of Rocks, Waller blazed away with the bat scoring 94 runs from 82 balls plundering
seven muscular boundaries and a lofty six. His assault was well supported by Kasteni, who logged 52 runs from 62 balls hitting three fours. The rest of the cast, except skipper Brendon, succumbed to scores below 20.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tendai-Chisoro-c2655 also shared one wicket each.
