2010 PNB Paribas Masters: Andy Roddick to face Robin Soderling in quarterfinals
Seeded no. 8 at the 2010 PNB Paribas Masters, America's Andy Roddick will go head to head with Sweden's Robin Soderling in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Roddick triumphed over Latvia's Ernests Gulbis in the third round to make a place for himself in the quarters. Gulbis was defeated 6-3 in the first set and 7-6 in the set to follow to be sent home. 
Additionally, Roddick qualified for the Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour Finals upon eliminating Gulbis from the tournament. The professional stated, 
"I think it's a goal at the beginning of every year, who qualified for the finals for an eight consecutive year. It's certainly an accomplishment every year. You can't just play well for one week. It's the culmination of doing it week after week on tour."
Soderling on the other hand, got through with Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round of his draw. The two remained evenly contested in the first set. However, Robin took the set based on his 7-6 win. Furthermore, the professional took the deciding second set 6-3 to end Wawrinka's reign. 
Receiving a bye into the second round, Andy was opposed by Finland's Jarkko Nieminen. The Finnish man was beaten 6-1 in the first set and 6-4 in the following set to mark a straight set win for Roddick. Nieminen eliminated Belgium's Xavier Malisse 6-4 and 6-3 in the first round to face Andy in the second.
The Swede got rid of Frenchman Gilles Simon in the second round match played between the two. Simon was defeated 6-4 and 6-0, two sets in a row, to be knocked out of the tournament. Simon beat Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev in the first round. Golubev got off to a good start taking the first set 6-3. It was however, all downhill for Andrey from here on in as he lost the remaining two sets 4-6 and 3-6. 
Amongst those to have made it through to the quarterfinals were also Russian Nikolay Davydenko, Austria’s Jurgen Melzer and Frenchmen Michael Llodra and Gael Monfils. Britain's Andy Murray and Croatia's Marin Cilic will battle it out for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2010 PNB Paribas Masters. In addition, Switzerland's Roger Federer will oppose the Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek in the third round.
