2010 PNB Paribas Masters: Roger that - Swiss man Roger Federer zips through to semi-finals

Despite the fact that things did not work out too well for the professional as far as the 2010 majors are concerned, Switzerland's Roger Federer is back with a bang. Seeded no. 1 at the 2010 PNB Paribas Masters, Federer thrashed Austria's Jurgen Melzer in the
quarterfinals of the tournament to make a place for him in the round to follow.
Roger instantly exercised his authority on the game, taking the first set 6-1. However, surprisingly enough, Melzer managed to level himself with the Swiss man as the two remained evenly contested in the second set. Nevertheless,
Federer came out victorious, taking the tiebreaker 7-6 to mark a straight set win.
Additionally, the Swiss man stated, "I definitely got off to a flyer in the first set. I was serving like a dream the whole match really, but in the first set really, I was serving to all the right spots. He hardly had a stick
on it. In the second set I had chances and it could have ended earlier. In the end I've got to be happy to go through in two (sets)."
Earlier, Melzer defeated the no. 7 seed, namely Spain's David Ferrer in the quarterfinals of their draw. The two went nip and tuck until Jurgen took the first set 7-6 based upon his tiebreak win. Ferrer, however, responded with
a 6-2 win in the second set. The third set was verily taken 6-3 by the Austrian to make it through to the next round.
Meanwhile, Federer got rid of Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek defeating him 6-4 in the first set and 6-3 in the following set. Stepanek eliminated Spain's Nicolas Almagro in the second round to face Federer in the third. Almagro
was beaten 7-6 and 6-4 to be sent home.

Upon receiving a bye into the second round, Federer was opposed by Frenchman Richard Gasquet. Roger deleted the local from the tournament, taking the first set 6-4 and furthermore, the second set 6-4 to end Gasquet's reign.
In an all-French tussle, Richard defeated compatriot Nicolas Mahut in the first round of the 2010 PNB Paribas Masters. Gasquet initiated the match with a 7-5. Mahut came back with a 6-4 win in the second set. Furthermore, Richard
