2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters 1000: Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi and Rohan Bopanna discarded from tournament
The pair of Pakistan's Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi and India's Rohan Bopanna proved incapable of making it past the quarter-finals, as they were defeated by Austria's Jurgen Melzer and India's Leander Paes at the Shanghai Rolex Masters 1000.
After going nip and tuck in the first set of the match, Qureshi and Bopanna triumphed over their competitors, beating them 7-6 in the first set of the match. Unfortunately for the Asians, in a reverse of fortune, Melzer and Paes bagged the second set 7-6, to
level themselves with the two. Additionally, after being tied a set each, the match went in favor of Leander and Jurgen, as they won the tie-breaker 10-4.
Earlier to defeating Qureshi and Bopanna, the duo beat Brazil's Tomaz Belluci and Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic. Paes and Melzer came out victorious at the match, taking the first set 6-3 and the second set 6-3, respectively.
Advancing at the tournament, the pair will face America's Mike and Bob Bryan in the semi-finals of their draw. Seeded no. 1, the Bryan brothrers defeated Slovakia's Michal Mertiňák and the Czech Republic's Franti Čermák, 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the
second set of their quarter-final match.
Prior to making it through to the quarters, Bopanna and Qureshi annihilated South Africa's Wesley Moodie and Belgium's d**k Norman, who received a bye into the second round of the tournament. Moodie and Norman lost 3-6 and 5-7, two sets in a row to be sent
home.
Additionally, the Asian Duality got through with Mark Knowles of the Bahamas and Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round of their draw. Aisam and Rohan initiated the match with a 7-6 win in the first set, followed by a 6-2 one in the second, to proceed
to the next round.
Amongst those to have triumphed at the tournament, were also Poland's Łukasz Kubot and Austria's Oliver Marach. The team defeated India's Mahesh Bhupati and Belarus' Max Mirnyi, 4-6, 6-3 and 10-6 to make a place for themselves in the semi's.
Kubot and Marach will either be faced by the all Polish pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski or by Canada's Daniel Nestor and Serbia's Nenand Zimonjić in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Fyrstenberg and Matkowsi were put through to the next round based upon a walkover, given by Spain's Nicolas Almagro and David Marrero. Where as, Nestor and Zimonjić defeated Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Israel's Jonathan Erlich 7-6 and 6-4 to make it through.
