2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters 1000: First Round Qualifiers (Part Three)

In an all Spanish tussle, Albert Montañés faced defeat at the hands of compatriot Tommy Robredo, to be eliminated from the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters 1000 as early as in the first round of the tournament.
Robredo took the first set 6-3; however, Montañés remained evenly contested with his fellow countryman, as the two were tied in the second set. The match nevertheless went in favour of Tommy as he took the deciding second set 7-6.
Seeded no. 7 at the tournament, Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych was opposed by Robredo in the second round of the tournament. In what was a dismal result for the Spaniard, Berdych defeated him 6-0 and 6-4 to advance to the third round. Tomas will either by faced by America's Andy Roddick or Spain's Guillermo García López in the third round of the championship.
Roddick was faced by Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round of his draw. The American took the first set 6-3 and was up 2-1 in the second set, until Kohlschreiber retired from the game due to an injury.
Along the side of which, Lopez thrashed Argentina's Eduardo Schwank in a three-set first round encounter to make it through to the following round. Schwank took the first set 7-6, upon winning a tie-breaker. The Spaniard, however, bounced back to take the second set 6-2, and the third set 6-4 to proceed to the next round.
China's Zhang Ze was eliminated from the tournament, after losing to Croatia's Ivan Ljubičić in the first round of their draw. Zhang got off to a good start, taking the first set 7-5. Ljubičić, however, wasn't going to let him off that easy. The Croatian came back in the second set to take it 6-3. Furthermore, the professional went on to take the decider 6-4.
Additionally, Ljubičić will be opposed by the no. 2 seed, Serbia's Novak Djokovic, in the second round of his draw. The Croatian made it through to the semi-finals of the 2010 China Open. Unfortunately, the professional was eliminated upon losing 4-6, 6-4 and 4-6 to Spain's David Ferrer.
Djokovic, however, thrashed Ferrer 6-2 and 6-4, two sets in a row to be crowned champion. After clinching the 2010 China Open Men's singles title, Djokovic stated that the win played a major role in boosting his level of confidence and that he hopes that he'll fare well as far as the Shanghai Masters is concerned.
