2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters 1000: Roger that!
Sweden's Robin Soderling ought to watch his back, as the Swiss man is back with a bang. Defeating Italy's Andreas Seppi in the third round of the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters 1000, Roger Federer made a place for himself in the quarter-finals
of the tournament.
Federer thrashed Seppi, 6-3 in the first set and 6-4 in the set to follow, to face Soderling in the quarters. Earlier to making it through, Seppi defeated China's Lu Yen-hsun, 7-6 and 6-3, in straight sets. Alongside, seeded no. 5 at the championship, the Swede
battled it out with Spain's David Ferrer to make it through to the next round.
Ferrer was beaten 7-5 in the first set, followed by a 6-4 defeat in the second, prior to which, Soderling eliminated Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic in the second round of the championship. Tipsarevic was beaten 6-3 in the first set
and 7-6 in the second, to be sent home.
Meanwhile, upon receiving a bye into the second round, Roger was faced by America's John Isner; unfortunately for the unseeded American, the reign ended just as Federer started off the match with a 6-3 win in the first set, followed by a 6-4 win in the final
set of the match. Isner toughed it out against Poland's Łukasz Kubot, defeating him 7-6 in the second set and 7-6 in the third set, earlier to losing the first set 4-6.
Amongst those who have made it through to the quarter-finals was also, Austria's Jurgen Melzer. Melzer thrashed the no. 1 seed, Rafael Nadal, defeating him 6-1, 3-6 and 6-3 in the third round match played between the two. Furthermore,
the Austrian will face Argentina's Juan Monaco in the quarters of his draw. Monaco got through with Germany's Mischa Zverev, defeating him 6-0 and 6-2, to oppose Melzer.
Britain's Andy Murray triumphed over Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, beating him 6-3 and 6-4, to face yet another Frenchman, namely, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Along the side of which, Tsonga got rid of
Germany's Florian Mayer, defeating him 7-5 and 6-3, to oppose Murray.
In addition to which, Spain's Guillermo García-López eliminated Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych, thrashing him 7-6, 6-3 to face Serbia's Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals of their draw. Djokovic came out victorious against Frenchman
Richard Gasquet, defeating him 6-1 and 6-1 to advance at the tournament.
Provided that Federer and Djokovic eliminate their competition, there's a good chance that the two will face off in the semi-finals of the tournament. Additionally, should history repeat itself, things may get ugly for Roger.
