2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters 1000: Second Round Qualifiers (Part Two)
In spite of leading Serbia to the 2010 Davis Cup final, Janko Tipsarevic proved incapable of making it past the second round of the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters 1000. Sweden's Robin Soderling ended the Serb's reign, defeating him 6-3 in the first set and 7-6
in the set that followed.
Soderling will play against Spain's David Ferrer in the third round. Seeded no. 11 at the tournament, Ferrer eliminated Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci in the second round of his draw to make it through to the next. Bellucci was beaten 7-6 in the first set and 6-3
in the second set, marking a straight set victory for the Spaniard.
Prior to competing at the Shanghai Masters, Ferrer battled it out with Serbia's Novak Djokovic at the 2010 China Open in the Men's singles category. Dismally, David was thrashed 6-2 and 6-4. Nevertheless, the professional seems to be faring well at the championship
so far.
Switzerland's Roger Federer will face Italy's Andreas Seppi in the third round. Federer annihilated America's John Isner, defeating him 6-3 in the first set and 6-4 in the second set. Meanwhile, Seppi got through with China's Lu Yen-Hsun, beating him 7-6, after
winning a first set tie-breaker and 6-3 in the second set.
The Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych eliminated Spain’s Tommy Robredo, defeating him 6-0 and 6-4 in the second round, only to face another Spaniard by the name of Guillermo García-López in the third. López faced America's Andy Roddick in the second round of his
draw. Roddick took the first set 6-3 just before López took a 3-2 lead in the second, shortly before Roddick decided to retire due to an injury.
In an all French tussle, fifteenth seed Gael Monfils faced defeat at the hands of compatriot, Richard Gasquet in the second round. Gasquet took the first set 6-3. However, Monfils rose in terms of his performance, only to take the second set 6-4. Quite similar
to the first set, Richard bagged the deciding third set based on a 6-4 win.
Gasquet will be opposed by Serbia's Novak Djokovic in the third round of the championship. Djokovic got rid of Croatia's Ivan Ljubičić in the second round, thrashing him 6-3, 6-3.
Having recently clinched the 2010 China Open Men's singles title, there's a good chance that Nole will make it through to the championship final. The underdogs on the other hand will try to pose as a major threat to the top seeds and possibly come in the
way of the Serb.
