2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters: Andy Roddick versus Philipp Kohlschreiber – Match Preview
The opening round continues and the second round starts at the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters for today’s schedule of the play.
In the first match on Tuesday, the tenth seed Andy Roddick from the United States of America will take on Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.
The number one American who was ranked number six back in 2009 is coming off a quarter final run at the Rakuten Japan Open 2010 in Tokyo, where he was defeated at the hands of Gael Monfils in a three-setter clash. It was Roddick’s first tournament since
his second round defeat at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York. He currently enjoys a match record of 42-12 on the season and has played in quarters or better in nine of fourteen championships in 2010. The American also enjoys a
2-2 record in ATP World Tour finals this year. He started off the season with his first trophy in Brisbane after getting the better of Stepanek. His overall career title of twenty nine sets him as the third most active contender on the tour behind Roger Federer
and World number one Rafael Nadal. Roddick has captured at least one crown every season since 2001 and attempting to end in top ten for the past nine years in a row.
As far as his ATP World Tour Masters 1000 stats are concerned, the professional tennis player from the United States of America has a lifetime mark of 145-58 since contesting in his first Masters 1000 championship in Miami, where he was downed in the second
round at the hands of his compatriot fellow Andre Agassi back in 2000. Roddick owns a 5-4 mark in finals, capturing his last ATP Masters 1000 crown during the month of April in Miami.
Philipp Kohlschreiber, the number one player from Germany fell in the opening round of the Shanghai Masters at the hands of Nicolas Almagro of Spain in a three-setter clash back in 2009. Philipp has successfully made his way into the quarters or better on
seven occasions on the ATP World Tour in 2010. His best result was a semi-final appearance in Auckland and a quarter final showdown in Monte-Carlo, Munich, Halle as well as San Jose. The German has advanced into the third round of the ATP tournaments on more
than six occasions this season. He enjoys a match record of 1-8 against the top ten foes in 2010 with his only victory over the world number four Andy Murray in the second round of Monte Carlo.
He started the season at number twenty six in the world and is currently ranked number thirty three by the Association of tennis professionals. As far as his ATP World Tour Masters 1000 record is concerned, Philipp has a lifetime mark of 36-32 and his best
results were a quarter final appearances in Toronto and Monte-Carlo this season, where he was defeated by the top ranked Rafael Nadal on both occasions.
Philipp is also among the top ten Germans in the ATP World rankings. He ended in the top thirty on the second straight season at number twenty seven back in 2007, highlighted by his final run at the Open de Moselle. He won a total of forty clashes and also
achieved his career high ranking of world number twenty eight back in 2009. The German is currently playing under the coaching supervision of Stephan Fehske and is really looking forward to start off his tournament’s campaign in Shanghai with a solid performance
against the top ranked American on Tuesday.
