2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters; Jo Wilfried Tsonga & Guillermo Garcia Lopez win the opener
World number thirteen Jo Wilfried Tsonga of France won his opening round match at the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters tennis tournament on Monday, after getting the better of Feliciano Lopez from Spain in two sets. The final match
score was 7-6(4), 6-3. The clash concluded in a time period of eighty five minutes.
Tsonga, who turned professional back in 2004, smashed a total of nine aces and won eighty one percent of his service points in his match against Lopez. The Spaniard on the other hand prevented four of five break point opportunities
and blasted a total of three double faults on Monday.
The twelfth seed Tsonga is coming off his opening round loss at the 2010 Rakuten Japan Open Tennis tournament where he was thrashed out by Jarkko Nieminen in three sets. The final match score was 4–6, 7–5, 1–6. The twenty five
year old Tsonga didn’t even participate in the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open as a result of his injury. His form and overall game looked quite rusty even in today’s clash against Lopez, however he managed to win it in the end.
As a result of this victory, the Gingins resident has successfully made his way into the next round of the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters.
“I think I have to work on everything because when you come back, you lose a lot of things. I have to practice my serve which is my best weapon and also my worst,” added Tsonga who was sidelined for the entire summer season due
to his knee injury.
The twenty five year old Tsonga currently enjoys a match record of 27-13 on the season.
In other action on Monday, Guillermo Garcia Lopez from Spain who is currently ranked number thirty five in the world by the Association of tennis professionals battled hard to get past Eduardo Schwank of Argentina in a three setter
clash. The final match score was 6-7(8), 6-2, 6-4. The clash concluded in a time period of two hours and eleven minutes in Shanghai. Guillermo captured his second ATP World Tour crown at the PTT Thailand Open Men’s singles competition last week after dispatching
off Jarkko Nieminen in the title battle in Bangkok.
