2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters: Novak Djokovic cruises into the quarters
World number two Novak Djokovic from Serbia played some great tennis to overpower Richard Gasquet in a two setter clash at the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters men’s singles competition on Thursday. The final match score was 6-1, 6-1.
The 23-year-old Djokovic as a result of this victory has successfully made his way into the quarter-final round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Thursday. Djokovic simply dominated the match right from the start and didn’t give any opportunity to his opponent
to bounce back at any stage of the clash on Thursday. Djoko's serve, form and overall game was pristine as he smashed some tremendous forehand and backhand strokes in China to defeat former world number seven Richard Gasquet at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000
competition.
With this victory, the Belgrade-born tennis ace has now joined world number four Andy Murray in the final eight in Shanghai. In the opening match of the day, the top ranked Brit comfortably subdued his French opponent Jeremy Chardy in straight sets to confirm
his quarter-final berth in Shanghai. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4.
Djokovic, who turned professional back in 2003, is coming off his China Open appearance in Beijing where he was seeded to win the title. The Serbian also won the last year’s crown in Beijing. He qualified for the title battle after brushing aside Mardy Fish,
Gilles Simon as well as John Isner. In the final game, he met eighth seed David Ferrer and defeated him in straight sets to lift the trophy for the second time in a row. The final match score was 6-2, 6-4.
Novak played his natural game against the French player who committed a number of unforced errors on a consistent basis to provide too many chances to Djokovic. On the other hand, Novak smashed 25 winners in contrast to Richard’s 6 along with winning 76%
points on his opening serve on Thursday.
Though, Richard had some break point opportunities in the decisive set, the French player could not convert any of those and lost the clash without putting up a substantial battle.
