2010 St. Petersburg Open; Preview of the evening session on Friday
The Russian tennis player Mikhail Youzhny and Victor Hanescu will square off on the seventh occasion in the evening session of the day at the 2010 St. Petersburg Open Men’s singles competition in Russia. Both of them are currently tied in their head-to-head
encounter at 3-3.
The 29-year-old Victor from Romania, who turned professional back in 2000, enters with a win loss mark of 26-22 on the season. He is currently ranked number 52 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP list. The right hander recorded his year best by making
his way into the final of Casablanca where Wawrinka got the better of him to win the title in the end during the month of April.
Victor started off his 2010 campaign by contesting at the Australian Open in Melbourne; where he won his opening round match against Juan Ignacio Chela only to fall down at the hands of world number three Roger Federer in the next. He next played at the
BNP Paribas Open where again the Romanian couldn’t go beyond the second round as he was toppled by Federer again in straight sets. He was also a semi-finalist here back in 2008 and is appearing in his second final eight round of the season
World number ten Youzhny, on the other hand, comes in with a match record of 41-17 on the year. The 28-year-old Russian has so far captured a total of two crowns in 2010 at Munich, defeating Marin Cilic and Kuala Lumpur where he got the better of Golubev
in the finals. He has also reached the final in Rotterdam, Dubai, semi final at the United States Open in New York and quarter final in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami and Gstaad so far in 2010.
The owner of seven singles career title on the tour achieved his highest ranking of world number eight back in 2008. He is 22-7 lifetime in Russia and also the last player from Russia to win the title here back in 2004. Mikhail is playing in his ninth ATP
World Tour quarter-final or better this year.
In the concluding match of the day, the 27-year-old Dmitry Igorevich Tursunov of Russia and Alexandr Dolgopolov will face each other in their first ever meeting for the final four berth at the St. Petersburg in Russia.
World number 264 Tursunov, who made his debut on the ATP World Tour back in 2000 recorded his year best showing by successfully making his way into the quarter final round of the Rakuten Japan Open in Tokyo where he was eventually given a beating by the
top seed and world number one Rafael Nadal.
The professional tennis player from Russia enters with a win loss mark of 5-7 on the season. He has so far won a total of six single ATP World Tour titles in his career. The Moscow resident achieved his career highest ranking of world number 20 back in 2006.
He was also a quarter finalist here back in 2007.
Dolgopolov, who is competing in his fourth ATP World Tour quarter-final or better in 2010 stands at a match record of 21-21 on the year. The 21-year-old Ukrainian has so far reached the semi-final round in Eastbourne and quarter final in Umag and Moscow
this season. He is currently ranked number 49 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP list.
At the grass court Grand Slam tournament this season in London, Dolgopolov surpassed Marco Chiudinelli in the opening round before losing at the hands of Tonga in a hard fought battle. The Ukrainian is looking for his first single ATP World tour title on
the tour.
