2010 St. Petersburg Open: Quarter-finalists (Men's Draw)
Seeded no. 1 in the tournament, Russia's Mikhail Youzhny battled it out against compatriot, Evgeny Donskoy to make a place for himself in the quarterfinals of the 2010 St. Petersburg Open. Youzhny lost the first set 3-6. However, he came back in the following
set with a 6-3 win and took the deciding third set 6-2. Donskoy eliminated fellow country-man, Andrey Kuznetsov, 7-5 and 7-6 in the first round to face Mikhail in the second.
Youzhny will be opposed by Romania's Victor Hanescu in the quarterfinals of his draw. Hanescu deleted America's Rajeev Ram, defeating him 7-6, 3-6 and 6-3 in the second round match played between the two. Earlier, Ram got rid of
Spain's Pablo Andujar, beating him 6-3, 6-7 and 6-3 to make it through to the second round.
Meanwhile, wild card entrant, Russia's Dmitry Tursunov got through with the no. 4 seed, China's Lu Yen-hsun, defeating him 6-1 in the first set and 6-4 in the set to follow. Yen-hsun faced Tursunov upon beating Italy's Potito Starace,
6-2 and 6-2 in the first round of the tournament.
Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov will now go head to head with Tursunov in the quarterfinals. Dolgopolov defeated Germany's Rainer Schuttler 6-4 in the first set and 6-2 in the second set to make it through. Prior to facing Alexandr,
Schuttler eliminated the no. 5 seed, Serbia's Victor Troicki in the first round of his draw. Rainer initiated the match with a 6-3 win in the first set, right before Troicki took the second set 6-4. Nevertheless, the deciding set went in favour of the German
as he took it, 6-3.
Unseeded, Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin defeated Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili, 6-3 and 6-4 to make it through to the quarterfinals. Gabashvili was beaten 6-3 and 6-4 to be sent home. Earlier, Teymuraz got rid of Italy's Filippo
Volandri, defeating him 3-6, 6-3 and 6-2 in the first round.
Kukushkin will be opposed by Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic in the quarterfinals. Tipsarevic eliminated America's Michael Russell, beating him 6-2 and 7-5. Prior to facing defeat, Russell got through with Russia's Igor Andreev, defeating
him 6-1 and 7-5 in the first round.
Germany's Benjamin Becker defeated Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu, 6-4 and 6-2 in the second round to be facing Ukraine's Illya Marchenko in the quarterfinals of his draw. Earlier, Mathieu eliminated Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez, beating him 6-4 and 6-3 to advance
in the tournament.
Marchenko got rid of Russia's Konstantin Kravchuk, thrashing him 6-4 and 6-4 in the second round match played between the two. Kravchuk eliminated Czech Republic's Frantisek Cermak, 6-2 and 6-3 in the first round to oppose Illya
in the second.
