2010 Swiss Indoors Basel, Viktor Troicki versus Novak Djokovic- match preview
A repeat of last season’s match up could be on the cards at the 2010 Swiss Indoors Basel Men’s singles competition. However, both the top seeds looking for that rematch will have to get by red hot final four foes.
In the first semi final match of the day, the second seed and last year’s winner Novak Djokovic will take on Viktor Troicki, an unseeded player on the centre court. Novak captured this crown in his debut appearance one year ago and further improved her career
mark to 8-0 with a quarter final victory in Basel on Friday.
After losing their first ATP World Tour encounter back in 2007, the professional tennis ace, Novak Djokovic has never lost to Viktor. In their most recent clash at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, Viktor had all sorts of chances.
However, Novak pulled it off in a five setter epic. He successfully made his way into the final before losing at the hands of World number one Rafael Nadal in the end.
The 23-year old, Novak is currently ranked number three in the South African Airways ATP list. The right hander is playing in the semi finals or better on the ninth occasion in seventeen championships in 2010. He enjoys a 3-2 mark in the final four clashes
this season.
Djokovic, who is playing in Basel for the second straight year enters with a win loss mark of 55-14 in 2010. The Serbian won the title back in 2009 after getting the better of Roger Federer in the final three sets.
He opened his account in Basel on Tuesday with a two setter win over Ernests Gulbis. The final match score was 6-4, 6-2. The Belgrade born made his way into the semi final round after dispatching off Robin Haase, a Dutch qualifier in straight sets on Friday.
The final score line was 6-2, 6-3.
In his most recent appearance, Djokovicq, who made his debut on the ATP World Tour back in 2003, advanced into the semi final at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai before falling to the World number two Roger Federer.
The former World number two also successfully defended his trophy at the China Open in Beijing last month, beating David Ferrer in the final. He captured his first crown of the season in Dubai after dismissing Mikhail Youzhny in a rain delayed final.
After finishing as a runner up at the United States Open in New York back in September, he also assisted his country to advance into the semi final stage with a win over Czech Republic, as he toppled Tomas Berdych in the fourth rubber.
World number 32, Viktor, is the second highest ranked Serbian behind Novak Djokovic on the ATP World Tour. He is playing in his fifth semi-final or better in 2010 and stands at 1-3 in the semi final clashes. Few days ago, Viktor won his first career ATP
World Tour trophy in Moscow, after ousting Marcos Baghdatis in his third career title battle.
The professional tennis ace from Serbia comes in with a match record of 36-29 on the year and his 36 victories in a single season is a career-best, exceeding his previous high of 32 back in 2009. The right hander owns a 3-23 lifetime mark versus the top
ten players and is attempting to break a nine-match losing streak since crushing the World number seven Tsonga in Bangkok last season.
His other notable performances in 2010 include three semi final appearances in Doha, New Heaven and Tokyo and two quarter final showings in Zagreb and Belgrade. Viktor, who turned professional back in 2006 is playing in Basel on the second occasion in his
career and previously couldn’t go beyond the second round back in 2009.
