2010 Swiss Indoors Basel: Preview of Thursday’s morning session
All of the remaining six berths for the quarter final round of 2010 Swiss Indoors Basel Men’s singles competition will be determined on Thursday. The Swiss tennis maestro, Roger Federer and Robin Haase have already qualified for the final eight round.
In the opening match of the day, the sixth seed Marin Cilic will take on former world number three David Nalbandian on the centre court. Marin, who had jumped into the top ten on the first occasion earlier in 2010, has struggled in the last few months to
maintain that form and is currently ranked number fifteen in the ATP list.
The 22 year old Cilic comes in with a win loss mark of 39-20 on the season. He is coming off his quarter final run in Vienna last week where the right hander was eventually defeated by Haider-Maurer.
The top tennis player from Croatia is hoping to make way into his second quarter final in Basel. He made it into the final eight last year before losing to Radek Stepanek in a three setter clash. Cilic owns a 2-1 record in ATP World Tour title battles in
2010.
He started off his 2010 campaign with a title defence in Chennai, beating Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets. Just a month later, the professional tennis player from Croatia captured another title in Zagreb after getting the better of Michael Berrer.
The Argentinean Nalbandian, on the other hand, is looking to make way into his fifth quarter final or better in 2010. The 28 year old enjoys a win loss mark of 26-8 on the season. He is playing in Basel on the eighth occasion in his career. The professional
tennis player from Croatia earlier captured the crown here back in 2002 and was also a finalist in 2003, 2004 and 2008.
Nalbandian opened his account this year in Basel with a two setter win over Jan Hajek, a qualifier from Czech Republic on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4. He posted his best result of the season by securing his 11th career ATP World Tour crown
in Washington after getting the better of Marcos Baghdatis.
Next up is Richard Gasquet versus the lucky loser Tobias Kamke from Germany. The 24 year old Kamke recorded the biggest victory of his career on Wednesday against the world number six Tomas Berdych in two sets. The right hander is making his championship
debut and looking to advance into his first ATP World Tour quarter-final on the tour.
Kamke is currently ranked number 72 in the South African Airways ATP list. He is coming off his second round defeat in Vienna last week where Kamke was ousted by his compatriot foe, Philipp Kohlschreiber.
World number 27 Gasquet, who also reached the quarter final round in Basel last year, is the third highest ranked French player on the ATP World Tour. The 24 year old has reached the quarter finals or better on seven occasions in 2010 and enters with a win
loss mark of 36-20 on the season.
The right hander made his way into the title battle in Sydney back in January and also captured his sixth career ATP World Tour crown in Nice after hammering Verdasco. Richard was also a semi finalist in Metz where he later pulled out of the match as a result
of illness.
He is one of the four players from France along with Michael Llorda, Gael Monfils and Gilles Simon to capture an ATP World Tour crown in 2010.
