2010 Swiss Indoors Basel; Preview of the Wednesday evening session

The top seed and world number two Roger Federer will take on Janko Tipsarevic in the only round two battle of the day at the 2010 Swiss Indoors Basel Men’s singles competition in the evening.
The local favourite Roger Federer who is a three time winner in Basel, further improved to 34-7 in his birthplace competition after a two setter retirement victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov on Monday. The Swiss tennis maestro was
also a finalist here back in 2000 and 2001, as well as last year.
Federer is coming off his third crown of the season in Stockholm which was his 64th overall, thus tying the former world number one Pete Sampras for number four on the Open Era crowns list. The 29 year old enters with a win loss
mark of 53-12 on the year and has triumphed in 22 of 25 clashes since losing the quarter final round at Wimbledon.
Prior to Stockholm, the right hander who made his debut on the ATP World Tour back in 1998 was also a finalist in Shanghai, falling to Andy Murray in two sets.
The 26 year old Janko, who is the third highest ranked Serbian behind Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki, is attempting to make his way into the quarters or better on the seventh occasion in 2010. His best result this year was a
finalist run in ‘s-Hertogenbosch back in June. He was also a semi finalist in Chennai and Los Angeles.
Janko made his debut in Basel on Tuesday with a two setter win over Denis Istomin. The final score line was 6-4, 6-2. He comes in with a win loss mark of 25-21 on the season and is recently coming off his quarter final appearance
in St. Petersburg before falling to ultimate winner Kukushkin last week.
In the final match of the day, the third seed Tomas Berdych from Czech Republic will meet a lucky loser Tobias Kamke of Germany in their first ever encounter on the ATP World Tour.
The German tennis sensation, Kamke has made one of the greatest jumps into the top hundred in 2010, improving his ranking from number 254 last year to number 72 this week. The 24 year old is playing in Basel on the very first occasion
in his career. He enters with a 6-7 mark in ATP World Tour play and is coming off his second round loss in Vienna last week where Kamke was beaten by his compatriot opponent Philipp Kohlschreiber.
World number six Berdych, who is the top contender from Czech Republic, has made his way into the quarters or better on eleven occasions in 2010. Moreover, the 25 year old also posted his career best Grand Slam run this season
at Wimbledon where he reached his first major final before losing to the world number one Rafael Nadal. He is the only player in the top ten yet to capture an ATP World Tour crown this year.
At the season’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, Berdych was upset in the opening round by Michael Llorda in three sets. The final match score was 6–7, 4–6, and 4–6. The professional tennis player from Czech
Republic who made his debut on the ATP World Tour back in 2002 also reached the final at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami back in April.
Berdych enters with a match record of 43-22 on the season and is attempting to earn one of the three remaining places for the elite eight man field in London.
