2010 Swiss Indoors Basel; preview of Friday’s morning session

Three major winners namely Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Roddick, all of whom rank amongst the world’s current top ten will take the court for the final eight battle at the 2010 Swiss Indoors Basel Men’s singles competition
on Friday.
The opening match on the centre court is the only one not featuring anyone from that trio, pitting the world number 32 Viktor Troicki and Richard Gasquet who is currently ranked number 27 , in a first time encounter. Both of them
are competing on their highest rankings in a long time.
The 24 year old Viktor is the second highest ranked Serbian behind Novak Djokovic in the ATP list. He is appearing in his seventh quarter final or better in 2010 and is 4-2 in the final eight. The right hander who is currently
ranked number 32 is coming off his first career ATP World Tour singles title in Moscow after getting the better of Marcos Baghdatis.
The professional tennis player from Serbia enters with a win loss mark of 35-29 on the year and is playing in Basel on the second occasion in his career. Viktor started of his tournament’s campaign on Tuesday with a 6-3, 6-0 win
over Michael Berrer. His other notable performances this season include two semi final appearances in Doha and New Heaven along with a quarter final show down in Zagreb and Belgrade.
Richard, on the other hand is playing in the final eight in Basel for the second straight season after recording a two setter victory over Yen Hsun Lu and Tobias Kamke earlier this week.
The right hander is the third highest ranked French player behind Tsonga and Monfils and is contesting in his eighth ATP World Tour quarter or better in 2010. The professional tennis player from France comes in with a win loss
mark of 37-20 on the season. He posted his best result of the year by winning a title in Nice back in May after overpowering Verdasco.
Next up is the second seed and world number three Novak Djokovic versus Robin Haase. World number 23, Haase is playing in Basel on the very first occasion in his career and is attempting to reach his first semi final since Amersfoort
back in 2007. The Dutchman owns a 2-2 lifetime mark versus the top ten players and achieved his career highest ranking of world number 56 back in 2008.
Novak, 23, is the third highest ranked player in the world on the ATP tour and is playing in the quarter final or better on the 14th occasion in seventeen championships in 2010.
The professional tennis ace from Serbia comes in with a match record of 54-14 on the season and is playing in Basel on the second occasion in his career. He opened his tournament’s campaign with a 6-4, 5-2 win over Ernests Gulbis
on Tuesday. The right hander made his way into the quarter final round of the event by dispatching off Jarkko Nieminen in two sets. The final score line was 6-4, 7-6(6).
In his most recent performance, Djokovic advanced into the semi final round at Shanghai Rolex Masters in China and just a few days before captured the Beijing title on the second occasion in a row. He reached his career high ranking
of world number two back in February this season before falling to number three on August. He regained his number two spot after finishing as a runner up at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open back in September.
