2010 Toray Pan Pacific Open: Third Round Qualifiers
As the 2010 Toray Pan Pacific came into play, wild card entrant, Kimiko Date Krum got off to a good start by defeating defending champion, Maria Sharapova in the first round of the tournament. With the Russian vindicator out of the way, things seem to have
gotten slightly easier for the professionals that remain as the title is now open to clinch.
Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic eliminated Ukraine’s Alona Bondarenko to make a place for herself in the third round of the championship. The Ukrainian sportswoman lost six games to four and six games to one in straight sets.
Alongside, Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka defeated Russia’s Lucie Šafářová six games to one and six games to three, two sets in a row, to make it through to the following round of the championship.
Apart from which, Poland’s Agnieszka Radwańska thrashed Belarus’ Olga Govortsova in straight sets, to advance to the third round of the 2010 Toray Pan Pacific Open. Govortsova was defeated six games to two in the first set and six games to three, in the
second set of the match.
Jankovich will either be made to play Israel’s Shahar Pe'er or Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi in the third round of the tournament. Pe’er defeated Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinszky seven games to five in the first set and six games to four in the third set, prior to
losing the first set, seven games to five.
Kanepi on the other hand, got rid of America’s Melanie Oudin six games to four and six games to four, two sets in a row to face Pe’er in the second round of the championship.
Azarenka will either be opposed by Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic or Frenchwoman, Marion Bartoli in the third round match of her draw. Ivanovic got through with Russia’s Alisa Kleybanova beating her six games to three and six games to three to take the match.
Along the side of which, Bartoli defeated Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer six games to four and six games to four, to play Ana Ivanovic in the second round of the 2010 Toray Pan Pacific Open.
Poland’s Agnieszka Radwańska will either go head to head with Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova or Belgium’s Andrea Petkovic in the third round of the championship. Kuznetsova made it through to the second round after Hungary’s Ágnes Szávay chose to retire during
the first set of the match.
Petkovic however, defeated Argentina’s Gisela Dulko six games to three and six games to one, to face Kuznetsova in the second round of the tournament.
