2010 U.S. Open: Federer Who? Novak Djokovic, not just a jester

The ardous five set semi-final of the 2010 U.S. Open Men's singles draw was brought to an end as Serbia's Novak Djokovic annihilated Switzerland's Roger Federer in the deciding fifth set of the match.

The Fed-express, although, hardly anymore, opened up the match with a first set win. Federer defeated Djokovic seven games to five, to take the lead. Djokovic however, bounced back in the second set by thrashing Roger, a shocking six games to one.

Proceeding to the third set, the Swiss Maestro seemed to have been struggling to stay in the game. Nevertheless, similar to his first set win, Federer managed to take the third set seven games to five.

In contrast to his customary self, for Djokovic, it was all work and no games. The Serbian professional bagged the fourth set, based upon his six to two game win. Despite the fact that Nole seemed to have been performing better, the two were evenly contested, with two sets each to their names.

The fifth set nonetheless, went in favor of the Serb as Djokovic ended the tussle right after winning the decider, seven games to five. Prior to which, as many as 23,770 people present at the Arthur Ashe stadium were witnessed at the edge of their seats, biting their nails.

In the words of Novak Djokovic, "This is one of those matches you'll remember for the rest of your life." Rightfully so. The Serb made history by defeating one of the greatest players of all times.

What seemed to have been in jest, Nole went on to say that he hit the last shot with his eyes closed. "If it goes in, OK. If it goes out, it's just another loss to Roger Federer at the U.S. Open."

Nevertheless, as disappointing as the loss was for the fallen hero, Federer's dream of bagging twenty grand slam singles titles before retirement seems to have come to an end for the time being.

As for Djoko, the professional will be made to face Spain's Speedy Gonzalez, Rafael Nadal in the 2010 U.S. Open Men's singles final. Presently ranked no. 1 in the World, Nadal eliminated fellow country-man Fernando Verdasco in the semi-final played between the two to make a place for himself at the finals.
