2010 U.S. Open: Fourth Round Qualifiers (Men’s Draw)
Four qualifying rounds, and a gruesome brawl later, a number of professionals have toughed it out to make it through to the quarter-finals of the 2010 U.S. Open. While others were sent home, others continue to triumph.
If you predicted a Federer-Soderling quarter-final, well then you were smack on. It comes as no surprise that the legendary Roger Federer secured a place for himself in the quarter-finals of the championship. Much to everyone’s delight, the Swiss man will be going head-to-head with Sweden’s Robin Soderling in the quarter-finals.
Federer thrashed Austria’s Jergen Melzer in the fourth round match played between the two. Melzer lost 3-6 in the first set. Furthermore, the Austrian sportsman lost the second set 6-7 on a tie-break. Verily, the third set went in Federer’s favour as he won it six games to three.
Alongside, Soderling defeated Spain’s Albert Montañés in his fourth round match to cruise through to the quarter-finals. Even though the Swede lost the first set four games to six, he came back bigger and better in the remaining sets to take the match. Soderling won the second set 6-3, the fourth set 6-4 and the deciding fifth set 6-3.
After having witnessed a nasty fight during his third round match, Novak Djokovic won his fourth round match to proceed to the quarter-finals of the 2010 U.S. Open. The Serb will be made to face Frenchman, Gael Monfils in his match. Before making it through to the quarter-finals, Djoko crushed America's Mardy Fish in three straight sets. Fish lost 3-6 in the first set, 4-6 in the second set and was eliminated upon his 1-6 loss against Nole.
On the other hand, right before getting to the quarter-finals, Monfils thrashed fellow countryman Richard Gasquet in the fourth round match of his draw. Gasquet was defeated a disappointing 4-6, 5-7, 5-7, three sets in a row to his French companion.
Yet to play his fourth round match, World no. 1, Rafael Nadal will go up against another Spaniard by the name of Feliciano Lopez in his fourth round match. Along the side of which, the all Spanish fourth round will played between Calvin Klein model, Fernando Verdasco and fellow countryman David Ferrer.
Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka will be competing against Sam Querrey, the only American that remains in the Men's singles category, in his fourth round match. Alongside which, Spain's Tommy Robredo will be made to face Russia's Mikhail Youzhny in their fourth round match.
As the quarter-finalists prepare to take their opponents on for a place in the semis, the professionals playing their fourth round matches will have to focus on getting to the quarter-finals first.
