2010 U.S Open: Hello, round three
Professionals such as Igor Andreev from Russia and Canadian sportswoman, Rebecca Marino stood defeated as the second round of the 2010 U.S. Open came to a close. On the other hand, America’s Venus Williams clearly has her eye on the prize, with sibling and on-court rival, Serena out of the way. Del Potro is dearly missed by many. However, the professionals from the Men’s category seem to be rather delighted upon the absence of the Argentine.
Roger Federer’s second round win came as no surprise. The Swiss Maestro crushed Germany’s Andreas Beck, 6-3, 6-4 and verily 6-3, three sets in a row to breeze through to the next round.
Alongside, celebrations are in order, as Slovakian professional, Daniela Hantuchova defeated USA’s Vania King on her own soil, in the second round match played between the two. Even though King took the first set seven games to five, Hantuchova proved the better player as she took the remaining two sets six games to three and six games to four.
On the contrary, America’s Mardy Fish did his nation proud by taking his second round match. Fish was opposed by Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay. Mardy bagged a straight set win against the professional. As Cuevas was defeated 7-5, 6-0 and 6-2.
Fish wasn’t the only player to have come out victorious on home-ground. Beatrice Capra eliminated France’s Aravane Rezai in the second round of the Women’s draw. Capra took the first set seven games to five. However, Rezai made a comeback in the second set and defeated Beatrice six games to two. It was nevertheless, the American that took the final set six games to three, to make it through to the next round.
Frenchman Richard Gasquet sent Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko home, upon thrashing him in their second round match. Gasquet took the first set six games to three. A slight improvement was seen from Davydenko’s side as he lost the second game four games to six, but lost it nonetheless. Nikolay’s reign at the 2010 U.S. Open was ended just when Gasquet took the deciding set six games to two.
Serbia’s top seed Jelena Jankovic was amongst the professionals to have made it through to the following round. Jankovic opposed Croatian Mirjana Lucic in her second round match. The Serb lost the second set three games to six, prior to which she won the first set six games to four. The deciding set went in her favor nevertheless as she won it, six games to two.
A number of other professionals made it past the second round at the 2010 U.S. Open. With the players all set to take each other one, hopefully, the following round will be an action-packed, memorable one.
