2010 U.S. Squash Open: El-Hindi cruises through to fourth round
It seems as though the sport of Squash has been taken over by the Egyptians, as professionals from all over the country are quite evidently dominating championships and tournaments of all sorts. Amongst the likes of which, is Egypt’s Wael El-Hindi. The sportsman
defeated Switzerland’s Nicolas Muller in the third round of the 2010 U.S. Squash Open, to make it through to the fourth.
Seeded no. 3 at the tournament, El Hindi got off to a good start in the first set of the match. However, the arduous set was brought to a close as the Egyptian sportsman took it based upon his 15-13 win. Proceeding further, things apparently got easier for
Wael as he went on to bag the second set 11-9.
Two sets down, Muller seemed to have been demoralized, as the statistics of the deciding third set were similar to that of the second set. El-Hindi clinched the final set 11-8, to make a place for himself in the fourth round of the championship.
The Egyptian professional will be made to face no. 9 seed, Finland’s Olli Touminen in the fourth round of his draw. Touminen defeated Egypt’s Mohamed El-Shorbagy, 11-8, 11-5, 9-11 and 12-10, in the third round match played between the two, to advance at
the tournament.
Prior to his third round win, Wael was made to oppose Canada’s Shahier Razik. As the two professionals battled it out, the match was finally brought to an end after four grueling sets. El-Hindi took the first set 11-6 along with the following set, 11-8.
However, Razik turned the tables on the professional as he took the third set 8-11. Nevertheless, the deciding fourth set went in favor of El-Hindi, as he bagged the set based on his 11-3 win.
In the first round of the tournament, El-Hindi eliminated Mexico’s Jorge Isaac Baltazar in a five set tussle to be put through to the next round. Isaac exercised his authority on the game by taking the first set 11-9. However, Wael made a comeback in the
second set, as he took it, 11-5. Proceeding further, El-Hindi took the third set 11-8 but Baltazar did not let him off that easy.
Even though El-Hindi battled it out in the fourth set, Jorge managed to clinch the set based upon his 11-7 win. Nevertheless, Wael gave Isaac a taste of his own medicine just as he took the deciding fifth set 11-7, to take the match.
The Egyptian athlete has shown a lot of potential throughout the 2010 U.S. Squash Open so far. As for the rest of the tournament, hopefully, El-Hindi will continue doing so.
