2010 U.S. Squash Open: Manuela Manetta and Amanda Sobhy breeze through to round three
America’s Amanda Sobhy has proved unbeatable on home-ground at the 2010 U.S. Squash Open. Amongst which, Italy’s Manuela Manetta seems to be faring well at the championship so far.
Amanda Sobhy came around to defeating Italy’s Aisling Blake in the second round match of their draw. Amanda got off to a rather bad start, as Blake defeated her 15-13 in the first set of the match. However, it was all downhill for Aisling from thereon.
The second set went in favour of Sobhy, as she thrashed Blake 11-8. Furthermore, upon battling it out in the third set, the American sportswoman took the third set 11-4. It seemed as though Aisling had completely lost her spark, as the demoralized Italian
was defeated 11-7 in the deciding fourth set of the match.
Along the side of which, in contrast to Sobhy’s second round match, America’s Latasha Khan stood defeated on home ground, as Italy’s Manuela Manetta ended her reign in the second round match played between the two.
Latasha initiated the arduous five set match, by clinching the first set, based upon her 11-6 win. However, Manetta came back to take the second set 11-3. As the match commenced, both players remained evenly contested as Khan bagged the third set, 11-6,
once again.
The fourth set nevertheless, went in favour of Manetta, as she took the set 11-4. Furthermore, it was the Italian sportswoman that came out victorious in the end, as she clinched the deciding fifth set 12-10 to proceed to the following round at the 2010
U.S. Squash Open.
Prior to her second round win, Sobhy defeated Canada’s Alexandra Norman 11-6, 11-8 and 11-8, in a crisp, three-set match. On the other hand, Manetta defeated Netherlands’ Natalie Grinham 11-6, 11-9 and 11-8 in straight sets to be put through to the next
round.
Alongside, Emma Beddoes will be made to oppose Netherlands’ Vanessa Atkinson, in the second round match of their draw. Apart from which, Frenchwoman Isabelle Stoehr will be faced by Denmark’s Line Hansen in the second round match played between the two.
Earlier to making it through to the second round, Beddoes defeated America’s Olivia Blatchford 11-9, 11-9 and 11-4. Along the side of which, Atkinson got rid of compatriot, Orla Noom by defeating her 10-12, 11-7, 11-3 and 11-9.
France’s Isabelle Stoehr defeated Canada’s Miranda Ranieri, 11-5, 11-8 and 11-3. As Denmark’s Line Hansen beat Britain’s Leonie Holt 11-9, 13-11 and 11-4 in their first round match.
