2010 U.S. Squash Open: Second Round Qualifiers (Men’s Draw)
As the first round of the 2010 U.S. Squash Open came to a close, a number of professionals advanced to the following round. However, as always, the professionals on the losing end were sent home just as their reign was ended.
Amongst the triumphant few was Egypt’s Wael El-Hindi. Seeded no. 3 at the tournament, El-Hindi eliminated Canada’s Shahier Razik to make a place for himself in the third round. The Egyptian sportsman got off to a good start by defeating Razik 11-6 and 11-8
in the first two sets. Razik managed to take the third set 11-8; however, the deciding fourth set went in favor of Wael, as he took it 11-3.
El-Hindi will be made to oppose Canada’s Nicolas Muller in the third round of the championship. Muller defeated Egypt’s Hisham Ashour, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 8-11 and 7-11, to make it through to the third round.
Alongside, Egypt’s Mohamed El-Shorbagy got rid of Britain’s Tom Richards. Seeded no. 11 at the tournament, Richards was thrashed 11-8 11-8 11-7, three sets in a row, to be sent home. As far as El-Shorbagy is concerned, the sportsman will face Finland’s Olli
Touminen in the third round of his draw.
Touminen defeated America’s Julian Illingworth, 14-12, 11-6 10-12 and 11-9, to secure a place for himself in the third round of the championship.
Egypt’s Mohammed Abbas, in spite of being unseeded, got through with the no. 6 seed, Alister Walker by beating him 3-11 11-4, 11-7, 11-13 and 11-9, in the five set tussle played between the two. Abbas will now be made to face Netherlands’ Lauren Jans Anjema
in the third round match of their draw.
Prior to making it through to the third round, Anjema eliminated Germany’s Simon Rosner, based upon his 11-6, 7-11, 11-1, 9-11 and 11-2, win.
Amidst the victorious Egyptians was Omar Mosaad. The professional defeated Hungary’s Mark Krajcsak 8-11, 11-5, 11-8 and 11-3, in the second round match played between the two. Furthermore, Mosaad advanced to the third round and will be made to oppose Frenchman,
Theirry Lincou, who is seeded no. 2 at the championship.
Earlier, Lincou got rid of Britain’s Adrian Walker by defeating him in the second round match of their draw. Walker was thrashed 11-5 11-3 and 11-1, in straight sets, as Lincou proceeded to the next round.
Four out of eight of the successful professionals to have made it through to the third round, will advance to the quarter-finals of the 2010 U.S. Squash Open.
