2010 Valencia Open 500: Marcel Granollers beats Juan Monaco; zips through to semi-finals
Lucky Loser, Spain's Marcel Granollers eliminated Argentina's Juan Monaco in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Valencia Open 500 to make a place for himself in the semi-finals of the tournament. Monaco got off to a good start, taking
the first set 6-1; however, it was not long before Granollers got back into the game, bagging the second set 6-3 and the deciding third set 6-4 to advance at the tournament.
Earlier, the Argentinean defeated the no. 1 seed, Britain's Andy Murray in the second round match played between the two. Juan took the first set 6-2, prior to losing the second set 3-6 to Murray. The decider, nonetheless, went
in favour of Monaco as he took it 6-2.

Meanwhile, in an all-Spanish tussle, Marcel got rid of compatriot, Pablo Andujar. The wild card entrant was beaten 6-2, 6-2, marking a straight set win for Granollers. Andujar defeated Russia's Dmitry Tursunov, taking the first round match 6-4 and 3-6, right
before Tursunov retired due to an injury shortly after the third set commenced.

Granollers annihilated Frenchman Benoit Paire in the first round match of his draw. In spite of Paire's constant struggle to level himself with the Spaniard, he failed to do so as Marcel took the first set 6-2 and the second set 6-4 to be put through to the
next round.

Furthermore, Granollers will be opposed by France's Gilles Simon the semi-finals of the 2010 Valencia Open 500. Simon defeated Russia's Nikolay Davydenko to face Marcel in the next round. Davydenko lost the match 3-6, 7-6, and 6-3 to be sent home.

Seeded no. 6 at the championship, Davydenko made it through to the quarters upon eliminating Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela in the second round. Chela was defeated 7-6 and 6-2, two sets in a row.
Amongst those to have made it through to the semi-finals was also Sweden's Robin Soderling. The no. 2 seed eliminated Frenchman Gael Monfils in the quarters, taking the match based upon his 6-3, 6-2 straight set win. Monfils defeated
Swiss man Stanislas Wawrinka prior to facing Soderling in the quarterfinals; Wawrinka lost an embarrassing 2-6 and 4-6 to Gael.
Additionally, Soderling will be opposed by either Italy’s Potito Starace or Spain’s David Ferrer in the semi-finals of the 2010 Valencia Open 500.
