2010 Valencia Open: Preview of Tuesday's evening session
World number eight David Ferrer, who captured the crown here back in 2008 will meet his compatriot player Guillermo Garcia Lopez in the third match of the day at 2010 Valencia Open Men’s Singles Competition in Spain. Ferrer has a life time mark of 4-1 against
Lopez. This will be their first ever encounter on hard court.
The 28 year old Ferrer has made his way into a total of four ATP World Tour title battles in 2010 and last month advanced into the final at China Open in Beijing where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic.
The right hander captured his eighth ATP World Tour trophy in Acapulco back in February whereas ended as finalist both in Buenos Aires and Rome. He enters with a win loss mark of 54-20 on the season. The professional tennis player from Spain achieved his
career high ranking of world number four back in 2008 and spent a total of 65 weeks in a row in the top ten between 2006 and 2008. He enjoys a life time mark of 12-4 in Valencia.
World number 30 Garcia, who triumphed in a total of 28 clashes last year, comes in with a match record of 31-22 on the season. He posted the best stretch of his professional life last month by winning in ten of twelve clashes on the Asian Swing.
The right hander grabbed his second career ATP World Tour crown in Bangkok back in October after getting the better of Jarkko Nieminen in straight sets. He has also reached the quarter finals in Tokyo as well as ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai so far
in 2010. Garcia enjoys a career record of 6-7 in Valencia, making his way into the final eight back in 2006 and again last year.
In the fourth clash of the day, world number five Robin Soderling from Spain and Albert Montanes will meet in their third meeting of the season. Soderling has already secured a place in the elite eight man field in London and is the top player from Sweden
who is 1-3 in the title battles in 2010.
He is making his debut in Valencia and has reached the quarters or better on twelve occasions this year. He comes in with a match record of 48-19 on the season and has made it into the final eight in his previous five championships, the United States Open,
Malaysian Open, China Open, Shanghai Rolex Masters and If Stockholm Open. He jumped into the top ten last year during the month of October and hasn't fallen since then.
The owner of five ATP World Tour singles titles, Albert Montanes has reached the quarter finals or better on eight occasions in 2010. Last week, he made his way into the semi final in Montpellier before losing to Ivan Ljubicic.
The 29 year old posted his best result of this season by winning his fourth and fifth crowns in Estoril and Stuttgart, knocking down Roger Federer and Gael Monfils respectively. He enjoys a lifetime mark of 6-7 in Valencia, advancing into the title battle
back in 2004 and quarter final last year. Albert enters with a match record of 37-22 on the season and is one of the eight Spaniards to capture an ATP World Tour trophy in 2010.
In the concluding match of the day, the eighteen year old Javier Marti of Spain, who is making his debut appearance in Valencia, will play against Nikolay Davydenko. Marti, who is the youngest contender in the main draw, is 3-3 in the finals this season
and is currently ranked number 346 on the South African Airways 2010 list. World number eleven, Nikolay on the other hand comes in with a match record of 26-17 on the season and is playing in Valencia on the fifth occasion in his career.
