2010 WGC - HSBC Championship: Betting preview (part 1)

The 2010 WGC-HSBC Championship is scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China from November 4th till November 7th. The finale of the four world championships, this event promises the strongest field in the tournaments history. Eight of
the top ten ranked players of the world are competing; obviously it’s going to be grand. Even though all the players are relevant, the odds have been placed on a selective few.
Tiger Woods:
The ex-top cat of golf will be especially on the watch this weekend considering all he’s been through in the past week. Lee Westwood toppled the five year long reign of Tiger Wood as golf’s Number player on Monday. Even though disappointed, Woods said that
he wasn’t deserving of the rank anymore since he didn’t win any tournaments. This weekend, Tiger will play and try to regain his position. Today, Woods said that having won 14 majors, now his ultimate ambition is to beat Jack Nicklaus’s record. Something Wood’s
is only short four wins of.  During the Monday singles in Wales, Wood hinted at his improved game and is determined to get better under the assistance of his new coach, Sean Foley. The betting odds for the former World Number one is 8/1.
Lee Westwood:
The hero of the moment, Lee Westwood, is feeling very confident and excited about this event. Lee has had a rough year with a calf injury that occurred in June. After withdrawing from the Bridgestone invitational, Westwood took some time off from competitive
golf. Coming back again in the Ryder Cup, Westwood was truly an asset for the winning European Team. Since his injury recurred after the Ryder Cup, Westwood took some time off again to be in form for the HSBC Championship. Even though Westy has struggled to
get where he is, he needs to be cautious and alert since there are many who want to take his position. Along with Woods, Martin Kaymer and Phil Mickelson could also end Westwood’s glory this weekend.  The betting odds for Westwood are 16/1.
Phil Mickelson:
Also known as Lefty, Phil Mickelson must be feeling low right now. He had twelve chances to be world number one since he was just one place below. Where Phil didn’t quite take the advantage of his position, Westwood did and is now on top of the World. Mickelson
has won in China twice in the last three years. In both 2007 and 2009, he might have been in a more athletic form since he had played in the Singapore Open just a week back. The Master’s winner was also chosen to take part in the Grand Slam, but he couldn’t
participate since he was diagnosed with a form of arthritis. Since his condition hindered his ability to play, lefty opted out and took a break from competitive golf until the HSBC Championship. Appearing after a month, Mickelson’s odds are 11/1.
Martin Kaymer:
Martin Kaymer is having a great year so far. Winning the USPGA Championship, the KLM Open and just recently the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, the German is definitely on a role. This victory jumped him to the number three position and also very near
the number one spot. Kaymer, who competed in the Andalucía Masters in Spain last weekend, could have replaced Woods if he won or came in second place in the event. Unfortunately, things didn’t go the way he hoped, but despite all Kaymer is still leading the
Race in the Dubai money list. Even though Martin couldn’t grab the opportunity last weekend, there is no saying he’ll back down. Kaymer is eyeing the number one spot and will try his best to finish Westwood’s new found glory. The betting odds for Martin Kaymer
are 14/1.
