2010 WTA China Open: Li Na storms into the quarters
The Chinese tennis contender, Li Na continued her good form as she got the better of Angelique Kerber and successfully made her way into the quarter final round of the 2010 WTA China Open Tennis Competition on Thursday.
The ninth seed Li had defeated Angelique on both occasions in their only two previous clashes and the Chinese made 3-0 victory only in forty seven minutes on Thursday. The final match score was 6-2, 6-0. She won a total of eight straight games from 4-2 during
the opening set, losing only twelve points in that stretch.
Li after the match while commenting on her opponent’s game said, "Kerber plays quite flat and I do not like that, but after the first set it was easier. I took my chance because I wanted to finish the match fast. In the beginning I was quite nervous but
at the end I was feeling good.”
Li is contesting at the China Open on the sixth occasion in her career. In her previous five appearances, her best result was a quarterfinal run back in 2006. The Chinese was extremely happy to make it to the quarters this year after a long time in her home
tournament and is looking to play even better in the remaining clashes in Beijing.
"For a long time I could not get back into the quarterfinals of my home event. It has been tough, but I have done it. So I am looking forward to playing even more now. I have played here many years and I know how to play well here. Of course, it helps that
there are so many fans who watch and really support me here,” added the number one Chinese after her victory on Thursday.
Li, as a result of this victory will next take on Anastasija Sevastova, a qualifier who took advantage from a walkover from the thirteen seed Nadia Petrova, who couldn’t play due to her foot injury.
Anastasija has had a total of two victories before and both have in fact come against the top ten contenders, namely Samantha Stosur of Australia earlier this week as well as Jelena Jankovic at Monterrey earlier in 2010.
Li and Anastasija will be facing each other on the very first occasion in their career.
