2010 WTA China Open: Shahar Peer breezes into the quarters
Shahar Peer from Israel registered her name as the first women on Wednesday to confirm a spot in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 WTA China Open Competition in Beijing, after beating Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia in the first clash of the day. The final
match score was 6-1, 6-2. The battle concluded in a time period of fifty nine minutes in Beijing.
The fifteen seed Shahar lost her serve on just one occasion in the match but broke her opponent’s serve on five occasions on her way to a comfortable two setter victory.
The Israeli while commenting on her performance after the match said, "I am very happy. I was playing very well today, very aggressively. I hope to keep going and play better and better every round this week.”
Shahar will take part in the quarterfinal round of the China Open on the very first occasion in her career without even missing a single set in Beijing. Her toughest match of the week so far was her two setter victory over Patty Schnyder in round two on
Tuesday.
"I came here pretty late after Tokyo. I did not start too well against Patty in my last match but played well the rest of the match, and I did that through the whole match today. I am just playing solid and aggressive at the same time on every point,” added
Shahar who advanced into the doubles final in Tokyo.
Peer has triumphed in a championship in China before at the International-level stop in Guangzhou back in 2009. "I have not had a lot of time to do sightseeing yet this week because I came here late, but I did see a lot of things last year. I went to the
Forbidden City and the Great Wall. I just said this morning it is amazing how many historical things you can see in this city, it is not common in other world cities to have this much,” she explained on Wednesday.
Peer was of the view that she is having a great time in Tokyo and the overall atmosphere along with the competition is very healthy. Jovanovski registered her first career top ten victory a round earlier over third seed Jelena Jankovic this week.
In other action, Angelique Kerber who ousted sixth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the opening round clash defeated Alexandra Dulgheru in the second round in two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-1. Angelique required only fifty three minutes to get past
the number one Romanian, who committed a total of eight double faults on Wednesday.
