2010 WTA Tournament; Top six players in Doha
As the season ending WTA Tournament kicked off on Tuesday, Bettor.com takes a look at the top six players in the elite eight women field in Doha.
1. Caroline Wozniacki
The twenty year old Caroline is currently ranked number one in the world by the Women Tennis Association. The Dane tennis ace stands at a match record of 59-15 on the season. Her best result so far at the WTA
Tournament was a semifinal showing last year. She has so far won a total of eleven titles in her career.
The Dane captured six singles crown in 2010 and thus registered her name as the first contender on the WTA tour to win more than four crowns in a single season since Justine Henin back in 2007. Caroline won the titles in New Haven,
Tokyo, Copenhagen, Ponte Vedra Beach, Beijing and Montreal.
She jumped to the top rankings in the world on October 11 for the very first occasion in her career. The right hander has triumphed in fifty nine clashes so far in 2010 and enjoys a win loss percentage of eighty five on the tour.
2. Vera Zvonareva
The twenty six year old Vera is currently ranked number three in the world on the WTA Tour. The professional tennis player from Russia enters with a match record of 46-17 on the year. Her best result at the WTA Tournament so far
was a finalist run back in 2008. The winner of ten WTA Tour level titles is one of the two contenders this season to make her way into six or more title battles in 2010. She won the Pattaya title and also reached the finals of two major events this season;
the United States Open in New York as well as Wimbledon at the All England Club in London.
3. Kim Clijsters
The twenty seven year old Clijsters is a professional tennis player from Belgium. She enters in the elite eight women field with a win loss record of 36-6 on the season. Her best showing at the WTA Tournament was a champion performance
back in 2002 as well as in 2003. The owner of thirty nine titles overall won her third United States Open title this season in New York and as a result extended her winning streak there to twenty one clashes.
The Belgian also captured crowns in Cincinnati, Miami and Brisbane. She has also triumphed in all six clashes versus the top ten foes in 2010.
4. Francesca Schiavone
World number six, Francesca who is thirty years old stands at a match record of 39-20 on the season. The Italian is making her debut at the WTA Tournament in Doha. She won her first Grand Slam crown this season at the French Open
in Roland Garros after getting the better of Sam Stosur from Australia in the title battle. The French Open winner also won a title at Barcelona and was a semi finalist at Tokyo and Auckland.
5. Samantha Stosur
The professional tennis player from Australia, Sam Stosur is currently ranked number five in the world by the WTA. The twenty six year old Sam who enjoys a win loss mark of 43-16 in 2010 is playing in the Doha field on the very
first occasion in her career. She made her way into her very first major final in 2010 at the French Open where the Australian was given a beating by Francesca.
Stosur who won her biggest career trophy at Charleston previously played in the doubles matches at the tournament back in 2005 and 2006.
6. Jelena Jankovic
The Serbian tennis ace, Jelena is currently ranked number eight in the world on the WTA tour. The twenty five year old Jelena stands at 38-19 on the season and previously reached the semi finals in Doha back in 2008 and last year.
She captured her twelfth career title this season at Indian Wells. The right hander was also a finalist at Rome.
