2010 Women's Qatar Classic Squash Championship: Egypt's Nour El Tayeb to face Malaysia's Nicol David in the semi-finals
Egypt's top seed Nour El Tayeb triumphed over New Zealand's Joelle King to make it through to the semi-finals of the 2010 Women's Qatar Classic Squash Championship. Additionally, El Tayeb will be opposed by Malaysia's Nicol David
in their semi-final match.
In the words of the Egyptian herself, “I can’t believe I won – quarter-finals of the Qatar Classic is huge for me. I’d only looked at the points and prize money for the first round. Tomorrow I play Nicol David – the pressure is
off, I’ll just try to enjoy myself and see how good the world number one is."
Nour initiated the 49-minute quarterfinal match defeating King 11-8 in the first set. Joelle, nevertheless, responded with an 11-7 win in the second set. However, that seemed to have been all the professional had to offer as El
Tayeb bagged the third set based upon an 11-9 and furthermore, went on to take the deciding fourth set 11-6 to send her competitor home.
“I haven’t played on this court before, but I coped well with it – it suits my game as shots to the front stay in, it’s a bit dead in the corners,” said El Tayeb. The Egyptian eliminated compatriots Omneya Abdel Kawy and Nour El Sherbini prior to making it
through to the quarterfinals.
Ranked no. 1 in the World, Malaysia's Nicol David battled it out against Australia's Kasey Brown in the quarterfinals of her draw. Nicol got off to a good start taking the first set 11-6 and followed it up with a 12-10 win in the second. The 39-minute tussle
was brought to an end just as David took the last set 11-7 to mark a straight set win.
Amongst those to have come out triumphant in the quarters was also Australia's Rachael Grinham. The professional deleted Egypt's Raneem El Weleily defeating her 12-10, 9-11, 14-16, 11-7 and 11-5 to advance at the tournament.
On the contrary, England's Laura Massaro was beaten by fellow citizen Jenny Duncalf in the quarterfinals of the Women's Qatar Classic. Massaro's reign was ended as she lost 7-11, 4-11 and 8-11.
