2010 Women’s World Squash Open: Nicol David; Tingling to get her hands on the trophy
Presently ranked no. 1 in the World and seeded no. 1 at the championship, Malaysia’s Nicol David eliminated the only Britt to remain, in the semi-finals of the 2010 Women’s World Squash Open today.
In a match that lasted a little short of 40 minutes, Britain’s Alison Waters was thrashed, three sets in a row to be sent home. After initially going nip and tuck, Nicol took the first set 14-12, based upon her tie-break win.
Waters seemed to have gotten demoralized by the time the second set was started, as David went on to win the second set eleven points to two. With her customized Asics shoes, Nicol zipped around the court to take the deciding third set eleven points to six.
Having been beaten by David for the sixteenth time, Waters seemed dejected prior to being defeated in the semi-finals of the championship.
Shortly after bagging her semi-final win, Nicol stated, “I am just glad to be in the final.” She went on to say that this was definitely a big hurdle to get over. Additionally, the no. 1 seed said that she always has to play her best game against Alison
and that the match was difficult even though the score suggested otherwise.
David will be made to oppose Egypt’s Omneya Abdel Kawy in the 2010 Women’s World Squash Open final, to be played tomorrow at the Soho Square in Egypt.
Upon being asked about what David has in store for the final, she stated that she’s played Kawy a number of times and that it has always been a good game.  “I will just take everything out of my bag and throw it on the court in one last push,” said Nicol.
Earlier to David’s semi-final win, the professional got through with compatriot, Low Wee Wern in a crisp 27 minute match, only to defeat her opponent 11-2, 11-5 and 11-2 respectively.
Along the side of which, the opponent to be playing her in the final, Kawy, defeated Australia’s Kasey Brown in a four set battle between the two. Omneya however, took the match based upon her 11-8, 14-12, 6-11 and 11-5 win, dropping only one set.
Conclusively, David seems to be extremely focused, with her eyes on the prize, apparently she’s all set to annihilate Egypt’s Kawy in the championship final. However, playing Omneya on her home-ground might not go in her favor.
