2010 Women’s World Squash Open: Round two Qualifiers
The sixteen professionals to have made it past the first round of the 2010 Women’s World Squash Open were brought down to eight, after exactly half of the sportswomen eliminated the other half in the second round of the championship.
Amongst the qualifying eight was Malaysia’s World no. 1 seed, Nicol David. The athlete got rid of Egypt’s Raneem El-Weleily in the second round match played between the two. El-Weleily was defeated 11-7, 11-7 and 11-7, on home-ground.
Another Malaysian Low Wee Wern defeated Frenchwoman, Isabelle Stoehr , 11-7, 11-5 and 11-8 in the second, third and fourth set after losing the first set 8-11. Wern will be made to face compatriot Nicol David in the quarter-finals.
England’s Alison Waters got rid of Hong Kong’s Annie Au in their second round match, as Au was thrashed 11-2, 11-7 and 14-2 in a 42-minute match. On the contrary, Britain’s Natalie Grainger was made to face defeat at the hands of compatriot, Vanessa Atkinson,
as she lost 2-11, 9-11, 13-11, 13-11 and 11-9 verily.
Shockingly, Ireland’s Madeline Perry was crushed by Australia’s Kasey Brown in the second round match of their draw. Kasey took the first set 11-7; however, Perry clinched the second set 11-9. It was nevertheless, Brown that came out victorious by taking
the remaining two sets 11-8 and 11-8, to make it through to the quarter-finals.    
Not all of the Egyptian’s ended up disappointing the nation, as Omneya Abdel Kawy defeated New Zealand’s Jaclyn Hawkes to advance to the next round. In a matter of thirty-four minutes, Kaway beat Hawkes 11-8, 13-11 and 11-4, three sets in a row, to send
her home.
Britain’s Laura Massaro battled with Frenchwoman, Camille Serme in their second round match only to be defeated. Serme took the first set 11-6. However, the sportswoman lost the second set 8-11 to Massaro. Camille nonetheless, bounced back to take the third
set 12-10.
Proceeding further, Laura took the fourth set 3-11. Her reign, however, ended just as Serme clinched the deciding fourth set 11-6.
Alongside, Egypt’s Engy Kheirallah was unfortunately, defeated by England’s Jenny Duncalf. In a 45-minute match, Duncalf eliminated Engy based upon her straight set win. Kheirallah was thrashed 11-9, 11-9 and 11-2 by the Britt.
Furthermore, the fortunate eight professionals to have made it through the second round, will battle it out for a place in the semi-finals of the championship.
