2010 Women’s World Squash Open to be held in Egypt
For the very first time in the history of the Women’s International Squash Players Association, the World Open is to commence in Egypt.
The championship will take place at the beautiful Egyptian Sea resort Soho Square at Sharm El-Sheikh.  The World Open is scheduled to kick off on the 15th of September and will come to a close on the 22nd of the same month.
One of the most prestigious WISPA events will feature a cutting edge prize money fund of $US 147,000. Even though Soho Square debuted in 2009 for WISPA, this is the first time Egypt is hosting the event.
In the words of Natalie Grainger, President and Principal of the Women’s International Squash Players Association, “WISPA is extremely excited about staging the biggest ever Women’s World Open Squash Championship to be held in Soho Square, Sharm El Sheikh.  I would like to thank and congratulate Mr. Emad Aziz for his vision in creating this fabulous opportunity.”
The first round of the main draw will be competed on an all-glass show court at Soho Square Sharm El-Sheikh, which is part of the resort in the Sharm El-Sheikh’s shopping and entertainment complex. Taking into consideration the success of the previous WISPA event held at Soho Square, the destination resort decided to build three permanent squash courts.  The initial few qualifying rounds will be played on the newly constructed squash courts.
“It is the first time that the Women’s World Open will be competed in Egypt.  With Egypt currently holding the Women’s World Team title, backed up by a current crop of highly world-ranked junior players coming through, it is the right time to host the most prestigious event taking place in a country that has such a rich tradition of producing talented squash champions.  I look forward to visiting Soho Square in Sharm El Sheikh, taking part in this grand event as well as enjoying the fine dining and other entertainment,” exclaimed Natalie Grainger.
President of the Egyptian Squash Federation stated that the championship fits the country’s government policy to encourage women’s sports. Assem Khalifa also exclaimed that he was very happy upon the partnership formed between the country and WISPA and that they’re delighted to be part of the event.
Additionally, Savoy-Sharm’s General Manager Ramy Rizkallah said, “We achieve our popularity and success by offering not only top quality accommodation and catering, but also so much more besides for our guests.  I am certain that the opportunity to watch the top players in the world competing for the Soho Square World Open trophy will be thrilling for everybody.”
