2010 World Cup Best Strikers: Carlos Tevez, Luis Suarez, Luis Fabiano, Diego Forlan, and David Villa

Over the course of the last month, sixty two games have been played in the World Cup. During those matches, there have been a few strikers who have stood out above the rest and helped their team emerge victorious. Regardless of how their teams did on the whole, these strikers have made a name for themselves in the world of football.

After the performances Carlos Tevez gave game in and game out for Argentina, it would be quite strange if Manchester City let him leave. The twenty six year old possesses great technical skills and speed, but his greatest asset is his nonstop work rate which defences find almost impossible to contain. Tevez didn’t have the same amount of hype that Lionel Messi had going into the World Cup, but going out of it, he has proven that he is worthy of the same level of acknowledgement.

If you try and ignore the matter of the blatant handball against Ghana, Luis Suarez has been one of the best attacking threats in the World Cup. The twenty three year old, who currently plays for Ajax, has managed to score three goals in the five matches he played; this includes the match winning goal against Mexico, which ensured Uruguay would finish as group leaders.

While most Brazilians have complained and groaned about the defensive style of play that Brazil have started to use, Luis Fabiano has, on the other hand, stuck with the Brazilian trademark style of play. He includes flair and style into everything he does on the pitch, making it a treat for spectators to watch him play. What’s important to note here is that not only did he show us his skills and flicks, but he also managed to repeatedly get on the score-sheet. He is truly one of the most skilled strikers.

As long as Uruguay have Diego Forlan, they don’t care who they play against. Forlan has been giving the performances of his life in this World Cup. The thirty one year old has absolutely been on fire. He’s scored off free kicks, with his right foot, his left foot, from impossible distances; Forlan has come through for his country every time he was asked to. He even gave Netherlands a run for their money in the semifinals. It would be unwise to count him out for the Golden Boot award, considering he still has a third place playoff game to play.

When you think of star strikers at this year’s tournament, the first name that comes to mind is none other than that of David Villa. The striker has scored five of his country’s seven goals so far, which has tied him as the leading goal scorer at the tournament so far. Villa possesses speed, control, power, and the ability to turn a match around almost single-handedly. For Spain to defeat Netherlands in the final game, they will strongly be relying on David Villa to produce the goods that would see them go through as the new World Champions.
