2010 World Cup: Ghana v Germany half time report

Ghana 0 Germany 0

Ghana and Germany are level after a free-flowing first half at Johannesburg’s Soccer City.

Centre back Jonathan Mensah almost diverted a Lukas Podolski cross into his own net early on, before an excellent last ditch block from Bastian Schweinsteiger denied Asamoah Gyan, after the Ghana forward seemed certain to score following great work from André Ayew.

The match – which features Ghana’s Kevin-Prince Boateng coming up against his half-brother, Germany left back Jérôme Boateng – has really ebbed and flowed, and Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson had to be alert to deny Mesut Özil when the midfielder was clean through, before Philipp Lahm cleared a Gyan header off the goalline, with the Ghanaians claiming that he used an arm.

A penalty would have been a harsh decision, and would have been of detriment to the match, and the half ended with Kevin-Prince Boateng flashing a header wide, and Schweinsteiger’s free kick being turned away by Kingson.
