2010 World Cup Ivory Coast v Portugal half time report

Ivory Coast 0 Portugal 0

Cristiano Ronaldo’s brilliant 30-yard effort was the closest either side came to scoring, in a half dominated by the Ivorians in Port Elizabeth.

Even without their talismanic captain Didier Drogba, Ivory Coast have been the far brighter side, enjoying the lion’s share of possession and stifling their Portuguese opponents at nearly every opportunity.

Barring Ronaldo’s spectacular effort on the 10th minute, the Real Madrid former World Player of the Year has been consistently thwarted by Sven Goran Eriksson’s tireless group of players.

Although the Africans have had no clear cut chances of their own, they’ve controlled the tempo of the match with consummate ease.

The Ivorian’s gameplan to prevent Ronaldo from enjoying time on the ball has certainly been effective so far. But can they keep him at bay for another 45 minutes?
