2010 World Cup: Portugal v Spain half time report
Portugal 0 Spain 0
The most mouth-watering fixture of the second round matches has failed to live up to its pre-match billing. Spain have dominated possession but have failed to create any clear cut chances, whilst Portugal are happy to have eleven men behind ball and play on the counter attack.
Spain’s best spell of the match came in the first ten minutes, where both David Villa and Fernando Torres tested Eduardo in the Portugal goal. Villa cut in from the left and struck a fine shot which was parried to safety and from the same sort of area Torres looked to curl one in the top corner but once again Eduardo was alert to the danger.
Portugal’s best spell came just before half-time, as a couple of dangerous balls into the box caused the Spanish backline a couple of nervy moments. Hugo Almeida came the closest to latching onto one, as he just failed to connect with a Simao centre.
