2010 World Cup: Slovenia v England half time report
Slovenia 0 England 1
England lead their must-win match with Slovenia at half time in Port Elizabeth courtesy of a Jermain Defoe goal.
Tottenham Hotspur forward Defoe – included in the team at the expense of Emile Heskey – volleyed home from six yards out following a cross from James Milner, another player brought into the side by coach Fabio Capello following the disappointing draw with Algeria last time out.
The Three Lions have been much better here though, and would have extended their lead if it wasn’t for an excellent save from goalkeeper Samir Handanovič, denying Steven Gerrard following some excellent interplay between the England captain and Wayne Rooney.
John Terry and Defoe have also come close, with the Slovenians struggling to assert any kind of attacking threat.
