2010 World Cup semi-final: Germany v Spain half time report

Germany 0 Spain 0

Neither Germany nor Spain are giving anything away easily in Durban, and the World Cup semi-final is goalless at half time.

In a tight first half, David Villa came closest to breaking the deadlock early on when he raced onto a through ball from Pedro – a replacement for the omitted Fernando Torres – but his effort was blocked by German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Carles Puyol should have done better with a free header from Andrés Iniesta’s powerful cross, while Xabi Alonso drove wide from distance.

Spain have had most of the ball, with the Germans offering little going forward save for a few failed counter attacks, and Piotr Trochowski’s long range effort that was turned around the post by Iker Casillas.

Germany were appealing for a penalty in the closing moments of the half when Sergio Ramos tangled with Mesut Özil, but their claims were waved away.
